Advantages: Informative
Disadvantages: Gets a bit gushing at times
To lump this show in with the other audience driven shows that you see on TV like Jeremy Kyle, Springer or Trisha would be to completely misrepresent what this show has to offer the viewer. Before I saw it that is what I assumed it was like however the reality is very different.
Oprah herself has become incredibly rich and powerful on the back of her TV show and the personal drive that she possesses and she is an excellent role model for women.
While at times this chat show may be a bit overly sentimental and gushing it is also good entertainment and provides some thoughtful content that makes you sit up and think. The show is mostly about self improvement and it provides many avenues to explore this such as life style makeovers, improving your literary knowledge through the book club, there are also a lot of celebrity interviews and often these are just about gossip or general interst and other times the celebrity may have a message they want to get across about charity work or similar appeals.
One of the spin offs from the show is that the original adviser on relationships, Dr Phil actually got his own series on the basis of his advice.
Oprah herself is a quality presenter who has a style which sets her guests at ease and provides for an informative and entertaining daytime show.
Summary: Chat show
