Advantages: Great family show, great acting by the children

Disadvantages: Not enough episodes, I want a new series please.

This just happens to be my favourite show on TV, and I am eagerly awaiting series three which is coming back sometime this autumn. Until then I am resigned to watching series one on DVD, which I do alot!

Outnumbered is written by Andy Hamilton (who I have seen a few times on Have I got news for you) and Guy Jenkin. They wrote 'Drop the Dead Donkey' together, but this is a bit before my time. The show is based around the Brockman family, where the parents are outnumbered by thier 3 children. The Mum is played by Claire Skinner (who I have seen before in Life Begins with Caroline Quentin) and the Dad is played by Hugh Dennis (who is also a eam captain on Mock The Week). I have not seen he children (Jake, Ben and Karen) in anything else, and I think that is the beauty of the programme, that the children are just basically allowed to be themselves, and therefore it comes across as very natural not scripted or directed.

I have seen people say that its boring, and that nothing ever happens, but then that is what the programme is about. Parents can relate to children that ask questions about everything, like Karen does, and she asks alot. The arguements that happen between family members are just like ones that happen all over the country, so it gives the audience the feeling of 'They are just like us!' It also touches on issues like bullying and old age in a light-hearted way.

Each episode is half an hour long, and both series have had running themes throughout the episodes. In series 1 we were introduced to Grandad, who is Sue's dad and I assume is suffering from ome form of Dementia (Its never said outright but we are left to conclude that). He becomes a major character in series 2 when he comes to live with he after setting fire to his house. There are also characterswho we dont see, like Sue's boss Veronica in series , and her new boss Tyson in series 2.

It is a great series. I would recommend it to anyone, but especially those people with children who can relate to this view of normal family life.

Summary: Show about a normal family every normal family will love
