People Like UsNewest Review: ... by a strange coincidence, Roy thanks Chris Langham at the end of each episode of People Like Us. Maybe being friends has caused their voices to sound alike, but maybe they do not in fact know each other at all. In which case the thanks becomes all the more mysterious because of this. People Like Us was originally shown for the first time on BBC2 in 1999 , but prior to this it was a radio ... more |

This is an op like many others. It will be like others but also not like them at all. It will be this op and really when the truth be told, that's all we can hope for. Roy Mallard is a man who in today's society at the very least is very much a documentarist. He exists somewhere between David Frost and Roger Cook, yet remains fully Roy Mallard, only more so. Each individual episode feels almost 30 minutes long, but is actually 1/2 an hour in length. Roy aims his sights and his camera and his Nissan Sunny on a different walk of life each week. Solicitors Offices, Estate Agents and Schools are just a few of the many few that Roy ... Read the complete review

This spoof documentary series is one of the best programmes on television, having successfully made the transition from Radio. The Premise is simple: Our host is rarely, and never intentionally, seen by us as he follows a day in the life of the man on the street. Sounds perfectly normal and incredibly familiar, you're thinking. The Catch is that our beloved Roy Mallard is astonishingly inept. He can't interview! Everything that can go wrong, does go wrong, especially when Roy takes to his subject and tries to 'help'. He is played to poerfection by Chris Langham (previously seen in an equally inept role in the sitcom ... Read the complete review

'Like most people these days, Janet works as a proof-reader at a publishing house in Surrey.' ' While Alan spent four years working towards a degree in English and Social Studies, his wife, Julie, worked towards a degree of happiness.' And the list of quotes goes on. And on. People like Us, originally on the radio and now in full Technicolour on the box is the funniest thing since a funny piece of sliced bread. Roy Mallard is the inept yet successful fly-on-the-wall presenter for the BBC. He profiles these 'people like us' in ordinary jobs, to hilarious results. Most of the gags are truly bizzarre, but you'll wonder how the ... Read the complete review

People Like Us is a spoof fly on the wall documentary. Described as both a "mockumentary" and a "gentle comedy", the main thing you need to know is that this is one of the funniest programmes to hit the television screen in recent years. The programme stars Chris Langham in the role of Roy Mallard, a hapless but well meaning reporter. His mission is to get to the heart of ordinary people, or in Roy's words, the "people like us" as they go about their professional working lives. Like many of the more successful comedies, People Like Us started life as a radio show. Written by John Morton, the show was subsequently ... Read the complete review
