Advantages: Unbelievable humour, Great acting, Sharply written
Disadvantages: Can we have another series?, Please? , Go on...
'Like most people these days, Janet works as a proof-reader at a publishing house in Surrey.' ' While Alan spent four years working towards a degree in English and Social Studies, his wife, Julie, worked towards a degree of happiness.' And the list of quotes goes on. And on. People like Us, originally on the radio and now in full Technicolour on the box is the funniest thing since a funny piece of sliced bread. Roy Mallard is the inept yet successful fly-on-the-wall presenter for the BBC. He profiles these 'people like us' in ordinary jobs, to hilarious results. Most of the gags are truly bizzarre, but you'll wonder how the writer was intelligent enough to come up with them. The man who plays Roy Mallard is the same actor who stars as the glasses-wearing psychiatrist from Kiss me Kate, and he is a star turn. And, in each episode, he is surrounded by other fabulous actors who lend their piece to making 'People like Us' a tapestry in the art of humour. I know the series may have finished now, but no doubt there'll be re-runs, and hopefuly another series, so I heartily recommend you check it out. Featured in the series were a vicar with a depressed wife, a bank manager who's nearing the chop and an actor who can't get a job for love nor money nor begging really hard. Deadpan rules supreme in this brilliant take on the documentaries of today, and it's superb. Put simply, this is the most important comedy since the Royle family. Yes - it's that good...
