Pigeon Street

Newest Review: ... show in the 80s, it featured a street where pigeons liked to roosts and visit, and each episode featured a tale involving one or more of the residents of the street. These residents included the all-time favourite: long-distance Clara, who drove long distance lorries for a living, and her theme song had her driving up and down really steep hills, throughtday and night. There were also the twins Molly and Polly who did everything together, and the two old ladies Daisy and Rose, who lived next door to each other. There was also a Sherlock Holmes style resident, called Mr Baskerville. Each episode was a rather relaxed affair, with a narrato... more

Pigeon Street was a popular kids' TV show that first aired in 1981. I remember it vividly from when I was a child, and it was one of my favourite TV shows throughout the 1980s. It featured cartoons by Beryl Cook, and with the best technology available for the show in the 80s, it featured a street where pigeons liked to roosts and visit, and each episode featured a tale involving one or more of the residents of the street. These residents included the all-time favourite: long-distance Clara, who drove long distance lorries for a living, and her theme song had her driving up and down really steep hills, throughtday and night. Pigeon Street, one of the televisual joys of my childhood. I dont think its actually dated too much, especially since it was first shown in 1981! The music was just so funky and jaunty, and the animation was bright and bold- perfect for any generation of toddlers. The characters actually remind me a bit of the late artist, Beryl Cooks, fun and rather rotund ladies...theres just something similar in the colours, the exhuberance and colourful depiction; anyone agree? I was born in 1980, and I clearly recall it being aired during the mid 80's, when I was just a little munchkin. I can really recall the theme tune to this childrens program and some of the ...  Read the complete review

The ressurection of Pigeon Street on BBC Choice has enabled a whole new generation to enjoy the antics of Gerald, Molly and Polly et al in a multi-cultural suburb that was was way ahead of the politically correct 1990's kids TV programmes. It was created in the early 1980's as a short filler programme in the mid-day schedules, to pass the time in between Play School and Blue Peter. Although the plots weren't exactly rocket science, and the pigeon link between residents was a trifle tenuous, its charm and simplicity more than make up for it. At about 10 minutes long, and only about a dozen episodes made, Pigeon Street is easy to ...  Read the complete review

For anything remotely associated with our favourite homeage to the humble pigeon, point your browser to : http://www.geocities.com/EnchantedForest/Glade/1185/pigeon.htm Perhaps the most useful resource on this site, is a great reminder of the main characters in the series, along with pictures of them. I'm sure we all had our personal favourites, for whatever reason! In no particular order, for those of you who have forgotten, there was: Hugo Hugo is a chef, and is married to Long Distance Clara. Long Distance Clara Married to Hugo the chef. (there's a suprise.) Personally, I wouldn't have trusted her on all ...  Read the complete review

...here are the people that you could meet... Anyone over the age of about 18 (or lucky enough to have BBC Choice on digital) must be happily aware of the existence of Pigeon Street ("where wings, wings beat"). It was perhaps one of the first 'politically correct' cartoons, made in the early eighties and set in a fictional street that had just the right mix of young and old, male and female, black and white etc, and a fair old number of eccentrics. This might all sound like a lot of old cheese, but bear with me. There's plenty of entertainment value in Pigeon Street, not least the various signature tunes of the characters. The best ...  Read the complete review
