Advantages: The occasional crash or chase
Disadvantages: A lot of pointless chit chat and not enough action
With this on in the background I thought I might as well share my feelings on it. Currently an episode as just started on ITV and already questions are springing in to my head. Why does the show have a host? A bit like "Youve been framed" no one wants to listen to some bloke wasting time yapping about scams we want video clips. Fair enough its nice to give the bloke a job...but send him to a call centre.
Oh look at this we are seeing an example of how to car jack. Great lets show the chavs how to steal cars. Thanks ITV. And the need for another bloke...gah shame.
Ok so a clip of a crash thats more like lets have more of this...oh no were now being given blatant and obvious advice. "Dont leave your keys in your car" well hello mate, arent you a genius. More yapping and people in shiney yellow jakets...and more talking. Thought this was "Police camera action" seems more like "Police camera chit chat.".
Maybe its just me but when we hear about action we expect car crash TV, literally. Not that Im a total sadist I dont want to see corpses or peoples head rolling down the road as thats disgusting and sick. However I do want to see cars hurtling in to each other, cases of mutilated vehicles, flips and high speed chases. Its not too much to ask is it? So do we get some annoying ugly geezer talking about scams? Thats what day time TV is for not late night stuff. Its 11 oclock now and the show looks like one of those boring BBC1 shows that those who try to show they have brains watch instead of Jeremy Kyle. Sadly at this time of day we should be treat to hardcore crashes, foul language and violence not a glorified documentary style show telling us not to crash.
Overall a great concept done in the most boring way possible. Filler on the ITV schedule that was cheap and due to their current financial situation, something that could well have a daily slot. Hopefully Ive just seen a poor episode and their is some with real bad ass carnage...but from what I saw I doubt it to be honest. Perhaps the crash footage cost too much for the crippled ITV network...but stop paying the host hes not needed and use the saving in money and time to better use.
Also the pretence that the show is about social improvement with street cameras ignores the fact that our liberties are destroyed by all the cameras. Social security or mass stalking of society?
Summary: Police and cameras are there not a lot of action though

- 25/08/09 Yes, filler of the tawdriest kind. I think it rather ironic that the idiot who presents it got done for drink driving! |
