Like the Royal Mail itself, it seems that our friend Postman Pat has been sacrificed at the alter of so-called modernisation and efficiency! Special Delivery Service indeed: make that an opportunity to market Pat to a new generation of children. That said, once you get over the blatant attempt to churn out yet more products (Pat even flies a helicopter!), the episodes are actually quite reasonable. My youngest son (nearly two) watches them avidly, and my eldest son (nearly six) also finds them entertaining, particularly the addition of the sorting office and Pat's new vehicles. The plots of each story offer nothing new, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. ... Read the complete review

As a young parent, I'm very aware that there are many marketting departments that aim to sell ME the things I loved as a kid, to make me want to get my own kids into it. Only today in WH Smiths the whole book-shelf was filled with the books I had as a little one. Well, times have changed, and there's a lot out there these days that makes the old illustrations I used to love look stupid. However, Postman Pat is a classic, so I was happy to see it on TV the other day. Oh my gosh: what has happened to Pat? It appears that Postman Pat has been revolutionized! He no longer drives a clapped out old red van to deliver his letters! He has a helicopter, scooter and in this series he's even been known to travel on horseback. He's changed with the times and now carries a mobile phone and Walkie Talkie and is called upon for Special Deliveries. He's no longer a standard Postman who delivers the flat, mundane envelopes through letterboxes either. He has all sorts of weird and wonderful things to drop off and they have to be there on time or else. We watched this for the first time on the Iplayer and my son has become completely hooked on it. The story always starts off ... Read the complete review

Postman Pat - Special Delivery Service (SDS)... Postman Pat seems to have got far better working conditions than ever before and this is clearly shown in his brand new children's television programme aired on BBC2 weekday mornings at 8.30am. Jack and I think that the whole show is truly brilliant and we have even set our set top box to record every episode as we are both well and truly hooked. (Especially as "Pat" is one of a limited number of words that Jack has in his vocabulary!). Now the Postman Pat of old used to drive a small red van delivering letters of maybe even small packages. This new series shows Pat delivery ... Read the complete review
