The closest would then go on to another game and get the chance to win a small prize and progress to the final game, where they would play the other winners in the show to determine who had the chance to go on and win the grand prize which, in true gameshow style, was usually a car or a holiday. The games throughout the show were quite varied but nearly always involved guessing the prices of products in a number of various different games, ether allocating different price tags or playing a 'higher or lower' game. The audience was the key in the entertainment for us at home, as well as the excellent p... more

Premium Review Price is Right, The: Come on down, the price is right! (345 words)

The Price is Right is a gameshow that ran for many years and was presented most memorably by Bruce Forsyth. Before him, I believe Leslie Crowther made the show as famous as it became, although it hasn't actually been on our screens for a number of years now. The format of the show featured a number of contestants chosen at random from the audience who would 'come on down' and then have to guess the price of a certain item. The closest would then go on to another game and get the chance to win a small prize and progress to the final game, where they would play the other winners in the show to determine who had the chance to go on and win the grand prize which, ...  Read the complete review

The Price is Right is a game show that was hosted by Bruce Forsythe and was one of those shows I remember watching with the whole family as we all used to sit around and compete against each other. The basic idea of this game show was that contestants had to guess the price of certain items, the nearest guess won the prize and progressed to the next round. One particular show sticks out in my memory as a friend of my older brother appeared on the show and won a couple of prizes. The products they had to guess ranged from electrical to bits of furniture and the following rounds tested the same skill but also had slight twists to them such as one round involved ...  Read the complete review

I have to say that its nice to see Brucie still as popular as ever with the general public. He is an enetertainment God and deserves his place as the king of the British gameshow, but sometimes you have to wonder about the shows he has presided over. The Price Is Right is one of his least impressive offerings if you ask me, but is still quite entertaining in a rather numb-brained sort of way. I vaguely remember someone else doing this show before Brucie(was it Leslie Crowther?) but other than a change of face behind the mic, little else seems to have altered. The concept is simple. People in the audience are assigned a number when they enter and are all ...  Read the complete review

Studio 2 at Yorkshire Television, the audience are in place and facing forward. The cameras are in position. For the first time this evening, the room is silent. 5...4...3...2...1... [pause]. Lights come up and shine brightly, the crowd begins to cheer and clap, a familiar tune starts to play.... A voice from nowhere: "Here we go! It's Britain's biggest game show!..." the cameras centre on the sliding doors - two stagehands behind the set slide the doors open to reveal Brucie - undoubtedly the king of gameshows - standing in his comical 'muscleman' pose. The crowd goes wild, cheering, clapping and whooping for all they're ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Price is Right, The: PIR in America (276 words)

Bob Barker has been the host for over 25 years in the American show. At first it was a half hour show, with the top two winners going for the show case. I can remember watching it as a child. My parents didn't approve of day time TV (but Dad watched sports during the weekend days). So whenever I was alone in the house, I'd watch it. I can remember the cars (top prize) being 8-10 thousand dollars. Then it went to an hour, which they added three more contestants and two "showcase showdown" (spin the wheel). It seems like the prizes are getting more expensive (cars are 17-42 thousand dollars, now). Some times they have motor homes and and ...  Read the complete review
