I am not a number, I am a free man. Well technically that's not true. I have an NI number, A Driver Number & a Passport Number. But I agree with the sentiment! The prisoner is an iconic TV show from the sixties. There are 17 episodes in total & it stars Patrick McGoohan as our hero, Number 6. The premise is that number 6 resigns from a top-level job for reasons unbeknown to anyone other than himself. When he arrives home, as he is packing, he is gassed by unknown assailants & awakes is an unusual Mediterranian-esque village. While he is there, the Village leader Number 2 tells Number 6 that he is in a top secret location where people are ... Read the complete review

Produced in 1967, THE PRISONER is one of those shows which these days is known of by a great many people, although most of those people have never seen it. However thanks to the recent 40th anniversary DVD release (in a great box set) I have now had the pleasure of watching it again (I remember seeing it on Channel 4 repeats a good many years ago, and I also remember telling my parents that I had been watching it and they despaired of me because they thought I was talking about PRISONER CELL BLOCK H - this in turn made me despair of them!). Anyway, as a fan of weird, wonderful and wacky television I really took to THE PRISONER. It tells the story of a secret ... Read the complete review

It is a deeply enigmatic work yet without much of the frustration in viewing that so many enigmas can create. The premise of the 17 show series (of which 7 are considered integral to the plot) is simplicity itself. Spy, Patrick McGoohan is kidnapped by mysterious undertakers and taken to the Village where they want him to answer one question: why did he resign? The exact reason why this is important (and it is made clear that The Prisoner is of especial importance) is never entirely elucidated upon but there is no ... Read the complete review

My mother loves this show and I'd never watched it until I bought the DVD for her for Christmas. Due to the lack of anything decent to watch on TV, I sat down to watch the Prisoner. I was delighted. This show is utterly bizarre, I mean really very surreal. The writers must have had some damned good drugs to dream this stuff up! But it is brillant, utterly great. Patrick McGoohan plays Number 6, who once worked for the government, but resigned for an unknown reason and was kidnapped and taken to "The Village", an utterly strange place where everyone has a number and all is provided. Number 2 (who changes regularly and never seems to be ... Read the complete review
