You know you are getting old when you realise that a show you loved as a youngster is now very dated and well past its best. When I was young The Professionals had it all, two MI5 agents flying around London battling terrorists, wearing designer clobber, driving fast cars and getting to shoot baddies. Save yourself the bother if you are watching sky one and this programme comes on. Go and wash the neighbours car, that is better than watching this programme. The original programme was always tongue in cheek, entertaining and reasonably well acted. So I thought (mistakenly) that this would be similar. In the New programme they now have three people working for CI5 as opposed to just Bodie and Doyle. The best way to describe the format is The Professionals meets The New Avengers. Eastenders had finished, there wasn't much else on TV, so my girlfriend and I decided to watch a video. Looking through a big pile of videos, I found a couple of tapes that I'd got my Dad to fill with episodes of the Professionals before he cancelled his Sky subscription. 'My girlfriends not going to like this', I thought, but she'd never seen the show and wanted to have a look. I'll tell you what, it was the best night we've spent in front of the TV in a long time.
