Advantages: Better than anything being shown on TV today.

Disadvantages: None whatsoever.

Eastenders had finished, there wasn't much else on TV, so my girlfriend and I decided to watch a video. Looking through a big pile of videos, I found a couple of tapes that I'd got my Dad to fill with episodes of the Professionals before he cancelled his Sky subscription. 'My girlfriends not going to like this', I thought, but she'd never seen the show and wanted to have a look.
I'll tell you what, it was the best night we've spent in front of the TV in a long time. If you've never seen the Professionals, have a look. It's fantastic blend of action, drama, comedy and dodgy acting, and it's a hell of a lot more fun than anything that's being made for TV at the moment. If you watched it when you were a kid, watch it again - it's every bit as much fun as it was back then. Every episode guarantees car chases, a gunfight, Bodie and Doyle (the central characters) getting into trouble with Cowley (their boss), failed romance and hilarious 70's fashion. Yes, it's dated, but that's a big part of it's appeal. Our favourite game turned out to be 'spot today's popular TV actors looking stupid 20 years ago'. The three episodes we watched (that's right, we sat enthralled for three hours) featured Trigger from Only Fools and Horses playing a middle eastern terrorist, Burnside from the Bill dying in the first five minutes of the story, and Roy from Eastenders - in two different episodes - playing a copper in one, and a pub landlord in the next.
Next time a night in front of the box looks like it's going to consist of sick animals, DIY and an airport docu-soap, get hold of some Professionals tapes, some cans of beer, some flares and prepare yourself for some REAL entertainment.
