Advantages: Funny, quirky, great characters

Disadvantages: Not so good at the beginning

Psych is a comedy programme brought in from America and was recently shown on BBC2, although I think it has also been shown on the Hallmark channel and on the Sci-Fi Channel as well. Psych follows Shawn Spencer (James Roday) and his life long friend Burton 'Gus' Guster (Dule Hill) as they try to solve crimes in connection with the Santa Barbara Police Department. The thing is, they're not any ordinary police, in fact they're really consultants since Shawns usefulness comes from the fact that the SBPD believe that he is really psychic! Of course hes not but he has heightened observational skills that were taught to him by his father Henry (Corbin Bernsen). Throughout the series they get involved in a wide variety of cases, which always have comic effect, but they get their bad guy in the end!

After seeing the first 2 episodes one Saturday afternoon I wasn't quite sure what to make of Psych. The acting wasn't great and the story wasn't really very grabbing either but there was just something about it that made me want to keep watching...so I did. The following weeks the whole programme improved greatly. I even think its one of the funnier programmes you will see on TV on any station.

The interactions between the main characters are always brilliant to watch. The back and forth between Shawn and Gus comes across hilariously and when his dad or Carlton "Lassie" Lassiter (Timothy Omundson), Head detective for the SBPD, is brought in, they never miss a beat. With Lassie always trying to figure out how Shawn and Gus solve the crimes before himself there are some really funny moments provided.

The quirkiness of Psych is what makes it so endearing. The characters all work well with each other and the situations they find themselves in are always highly entertaining. Apart from the first episode or 2 where everyone seems to be finding their feet I really enjoyed this series. I am looking forward to series 2 if it is going to be shown or if I can find the DVD somewhere. Highly recommended from me!

10/10

Summary: It doesn't take a psychic to know this is excellent
