Advantages: Very funny and enjoyable
Disadvantages: None
Pushing Daisies is the story of a pie maker called Ned (Lee Pace) who has the ability to make people come back from the dead, with a catch. If Ned brings something back alive for more than exactly one minute, something else will have to die to replace it to keep everything balanced. If he touches the revived being for a second time, it falls dead again, only this time there's no coming back.
Things are further complicated for Ned in his childhood when by bringing back his own mother, he accidentally kills the father of his childhood love Charlotte "Chuck" Charles (Anna Friel). It is this time when Ned learns what powers he possesses and it gets worse for him when he permanently kills his own mother again when giving her a goodnight kiss.
Ned grew up and became the pie maker that everyone knows but his secret was outed to a private investigator called Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) who agreed he would keep Neds secret in exchange for the pie maker helping him with his investigations. When Neds childhood sweetheart Chuck is murdered while on cruise. When Ned sees her he cant resist the opportunity to save his one love and keep her alive for good. It's from this point that things really get interesting...
Pushing Daisies is a really good easy to watch programme. There's nothing too complicated about the story each week and the continuing storylines over the course of the series keep the whole story fresh but giving the viewer enough to keep them interested in the characters for a longer period of time. The main characters, along with waitress Olive Snook (Kristin Chenoweth) and Chuck's aunts Lily (Swoosie Kurtz) and Vivian Charles (Ellen Greene), are also welcome additions to the cast and each character brings something different to the table.
The whole programme is quite quirky and overall doesn't take itself too seriously. There's a lot of guest stars that you may recognise from other programmes too so its interesting when they pop up as well. It never fails to disappoint in their curious way of naming the characters as well which adds to the humour.
I really enjoyed this first series and it definitely got my attention enough to see the second one. Unfortunately it seems like the programme has since been cancelled so enjoy the first 2 series' while you can!
Summary: A great programme in every way
