Advantages: Great stories

Disadvantages: a few rubbish episodes

Quantum Leap was one of my favourite shows from my mis=spent youth, coming on just after Red Dwarf at around 9:30 on a Tuesday evening.
Quantum Leap told the story of Sam Beckett a traveller in time who could leap into the body of any person in his lifetime. He would then have to solve a personal problem for that person or someone close to him. This gave the show such tremendous scope - offering a vast array of new characters and situations.
His guide was the ever reliable Dean Stockwell, who played Al. Al would help Sam out solving these problems.
Although usually made on a very limited budget, Quatum Leap always managed to look authentic to the age in which it was set. The stories were always well acted and directed, and the added bonus of the teaser for next week's episode meant you had to tune in the following week. I have recently bought all five seasons of Quatum Leap on DVD - well worth doing!

Summary: A fantastic sci-fi show that's aged well
