Advantages: very fun tv show suitable for all

Disadvantages: it maybe too cheesy and dated for some!

This is a tv show I started watching when I was a teenager. There are 5 series in total and I've just bought them all on dvd and I'm loving watching them again.

The story follows Dr Samuel Beckett who has created a time machine that allows the user to travel back and forth through their own lifetime. In order to prove that the machine works he steps into the machine himself and vanishes! When he wakes he finds himself in a body that is not his own and he has lost his memory. That is until Al appears who is an observer from Sam's time who appears in the form of a hologram that only Sam can see and hear. Al's job is to help Sam get home and to 'leap'. Sam can only leap once he has put right what once went wrong in the person's life he has leapt into.

From there the series continue with Sam leaping from life to life, driven by an unknown force, hoping that eventually he will get back home. Most of the episodes you can just drop into and you don't really have to know what has gone on previously. Only occasionally do the characters refer to the events of a previous episode and so it is very easy to pick up. There are 2 trilogies of episodes that happen in later series but apart from that I think you can drop into theis tv series whenever you like.

Most of the time Sam leaps into average joe but occasionally he does leap into the lives of famous people from the past or the people around them. One particularly stand-out episode for me was the Lee Harvey Oswald episode.

Some episodes are very silly and cheesy. For instance, Sam can also leap into the lives of women as well as men. So when Sam looks in the mirror we see his reflection as the woman he has leapt into. When he see him how he sees himself he looks like a man in a dress!

The series is very family friendly and I don't think you'll find anything offensive in these episodes. There are many episodes that do cover harsh topics such as racism, prejudice, rape, war but they're done in a very sensitive way and are often very moving.

This is very much like the tv shows I used to watch when I was younger, a lone hero comes into the lives of strangers, makes their lives better and then moves on to the next town to help others!

If you love a mix of sci-fi and cheese then this is the show for you. The very last episode of the final series (series 5) will break your heart and leave you wanting more!

Summary: Cheesy Sci-fi Extravaganza!

One of my all time fave shows. Cheesy like you say, but Scott Backula was a decent actor when you think of all the things he had to do.
