Advantages: Excellent show

Disadvantages: the ending was lousy :-(

The idea behind Quantum Leap is that time travel is possible, but only during your own lifetime. The way this is explained in the show is that your life is like a piece of string, long and stretched out. You travel along the string because you have no way to jump from point to point. however, if the string is crunched up into a ball then every point is touching every other point, so you can jump arround during your own lifetime eithout any real difficulties. I`m not too sure how accurate this idea would be in the real world, but lets just believe that it`s possible, otherwise you`ll ruin the show for yourself.

The show just follows the exploits of Dr Sam Beckett as he travels through time, doing good and trying to get home. As he travels through time he takes the bodies of other people for a few days until he figures out what he needs to do to improve life, and once he has done this he jumps out. He has got help in the form of Al, a hologram that only Sam can see and hear who is transmitted from his real time to help him along. Everyone sees Sam as the person he has taken over aprt from animals and young children, who see him as he really is. This can cause some funny moments.

Also Sam can take the place of woman as well as men, which agin ledns itself wel to some funny situations.

As Sam travels he gets more and more depressed about what is happening to him. he just wants to go home but whatever is controling him just won`t let him. At one point he comes up against what could well be the devil - it`s never said outright but that is the impression they give you.

The ending of the show was, in my opinion, a real anti-climax. Sam turns up at a bar and meets the bar-tender, who seems to be the force responsible for deciding where and when he is to jump. I won`t give any more away but it really did strike me as an unusual way to end the show - I for one expected something very different to happen.
