Question of Pop, A

Newest Review: ... is replaced by A side or B side but the principle is the same with the B sides like the away questions supposed to be harder. It does all seem a bit of a light excuse to show odd clips of different bands and answering some feeble questions. It is, thankfully, nothing like Never Mind The Buzzcocks which merely seems to want to knock and carp about different people in the music industry. It is all early Saturday evening gentle fare and will be quite inoffensive to Granny. They even have that nice smiley Jamie Theakston on who, despite never having mastered the concept of combing his hair, seems to be on telly an awful lot. Theakston is typi... more

When the BBC decided to produce a pop version of their long established A Question Of Sport programme they obviously did not spend a lot of time changing the format. Starting with a picture board where the contestants have to say who the person in the picture is, a mystery guest back to the picture board and a quick fire last round it has a huge sense of déjà vu. Even the point scoring is the same - 2 for correct, 1 point deducted for an for incorrect one. The sports quiz home and away is replaced by A side or B side but the principle is the same with the B sides like the away questions supposed to be harder. It does all seem a bit of a light excuse to show ...  Read the complete review

Dear oh dear oh dear. What must Willy Carson and Bill Beaumont make of this? A re-hashing of the tired old 'Question of Sport' (QoS)concept that in itself seemed to be hanging on by the very skin of Sue Barker's false teeth. The fact that the show's two captains, Suggs and Noddy Holder, were last regularly in the hit parade when most of today's youth were a star in their father's twinkle is evidence that this show has been dreamed up by middle-age BBC Entertainment executives, only happy when they're using a hackneyed old formula (but at least they got rid of 'Blankety Blank'). The original QoS celebrity face ...  Read the complete review

"A Question Of Pop" is a fairly new TV show. It is hosted by Jamie Theakston, who previously presented Live + Kicking and the O-Zone. The series ended a while ago, and I'm unsure when there'll be a new series. Each week, there are 2 teams of 3, and one team is captained by Suggs, the other by Noddy Holder (of Slade fame). Each team takes it in turns to answer questions, listen to music clips to try and guess the song etc. It is a very enjoyable show, and is always fun to watch. It often brings back many happy memories, too! The guests on it are always celebrities, including pop stars, pop pundits, TV celebrities etc. ...  Read the complete review

Well, I for one think it is! This show is based on the same concept of A Question Of Sport, only replace Sport With Pop and you will get the idea. Here 2 teams (a captain and 2 guests) battle it out on their pop knowlege. Seeing as they are usually in the business themselves, you would think that they would know all the answers. Not so though. Some of the guests are right dummies! This program is a tamer version of Never Mind The Buzzcocks, however not as funny as Mark Lammar hosts the latter (say no more). I think the presenter on Question Of Pop might be Jamie Theakston, but don't quote me on that - he's rather bland though. :-) A ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Question of Pop, A: It's not bad, light entertainment (173 words)

Set out in the same format as A Question of Sport it’s difficult to make out an opinion on A Question of Pop. On one side it’s sometimes funny, sometimes interesting and not all that bad, it’s good entertainment but then again it’s not what you may expect from a quiz show on pop, in that the questions and guests never seem to get fair from bands like Steps and S-Club 7, which are commercial bands, rather than real pop like Barenaked Ladies or Catatonia. It’s hosted by Jamie Theakston who is generally quite enjoyable to watch. And the teams are captain by Suggs and Noddy Holder. However the captains don’t seem to be as ...  Read the complete review
