Question of Sport, A TV Programme

Newest Review: ... quiz show is a classic and one of the most well known on BBC and has stood the test of time incredibly well. It all started back in 1968 when the show was first aired and is still running to this day which shows how popular it still is. As of last year they had made nearly nine hundred episodes and it was Britain's longest running game show uninterrupted. The game itself featured two teams of sports stars from different fields of expertise answering sporting questions on their own and other sports to see which team would win. Each team had their own resident captain and at the end of the series the captain of the team with the most wins... more

If you are a big sports fan like I am then I'm sure you've heard of A Question of Sport of seen it over the years. I've enjoyed this show for years although must admit I used to watch it more when David Coleman used to present it. My favourite days of the show were when he was hosting and Bill Beaumont and Emelyn Hughes who has now sadly died used to be team captains. Emelyn Hughes in particular used to really inject some humour into proceedings. This quiz show is a classic and one of the most well known on BBC and has stood the test of time incredibly well. A Question of Sport is a national institute for many a sport fan. Over the past few decades we have been greeted to some of the greatest sports stars, not just those who have graced English soil but also on the world stage, to test their sporting knowledge against one another. There have been many great captains over the years but as I write this Matt Dawson, English rugby legend, and Phil Tuffnel, the funny man of cricket, take the captains armbands. Along with the ever-aging Sue Barker who really needs to change her tone of voice once in a while seeing as she is the presenter and needs to get a bit more excited once in a while. The format for ...  Read the complete review

A Question of Sport has been one of my favourite quiz shows ever since I was a kid. It helps that I'm a big sports fan as this game show, as the title suggests is all about sport. It has been on television since 1968 and keeps going from strength to strength. I think it's just about only one of the sports quiz's on television as I can't really think of another on that comes close. I think the reason why the show works is that it has a simple but effective format and includes famous sports stars that their fans really enjoy watching on the television. It also helps that the show is funny, comical and fairly topical. Like I said the format is simple. ...  Read the complete review

*Introduction* Friday evening television can be very dull. But there are a few shows other than Eastenders and Friday Night With Jonathan Ross that I enjoy. If you love sport and equally love television, A Question of Sport will be a great show for you. I absolutely adore it as it combines my love of watching sport with my other love of quizzes. *About the Show* A Question of Sport is a quiz show with a relatively rigid set format. It has a presenter and two team captains who are joined each week by four guest sports stars, past and present. The two teams of three then battle it out in each of the rounds to gain points in order to win. ...  Read the complete review

Question of Sport, A: Questioning why it exists (807 words)

A Question of Sport has haunted the Friday night line up for far too long. It's one of those programmes which I have to endure otherwise the channel will be changed and it's likely I'll miss the ones I actually want to watch. It's been going for over 30 years now and has had a number of captains who only seem to stay for a short amount of time. They have also had a number of guest captains including David Seaman, Shane Warne and Michael Owen before settling for Phil Tufnell (Cricket and Strictly Come Dancing) who has been doing it since 2008. The other team has Matt Dawson as captain (Rugby and Strictly Come Dancing) since 2004. I don't dislike ...  Read the complete review
