Newest Review: ... and come to a conclusion of their cause of death. With some cases though, Dr Quincy is never totally satisfied that the cause of death is as clear-cut as most others think, and he carries out his own investigations, either in the hospital's time or his own time. He is assisted by his sidekick, Sam Fujiyama, a master of medical science. Quincy's boss, Astin is usually trying to keep Dr Quincy doing the job that he should be doing, carrying out autopsies. Dr Quincy is not the sort of man that can be controlled easily though! Other main characters on the programme include the police presence of Lt Monaghan and Sergeant Brill. They always... more

I first discovered Quincy ME back in the late 1990s. At the time, I was studying at college and used to have the luxury of finishing at lunch time quite often in the week. I always used to watch Neighbours, and Quincy used to follow it on BBC1. The programme is about a Los Angeles medical examiner, called Dr Quincy (played by the excellent Jack Klugman). His job is to carry out autopsies on the deceased and come to a conclusion of their cause of death. With some cases though, Dr Quincy is never totally satisfied that the cause of death is as clear-cut as most others think, and he carries out his own investigations, either in the hospital's time or his own ...  Read the complete review

Clever BBC programme allocation for the past decade or so has seen the early afternoon slot on BBC 1, just after Doctors, filled with either Diagnosis Murder or Quincy. To start with, I was confused between the two, as both feature an ageing star as a doctor who does some sleuthing both on his own time and on his hospital's. They clever manoeuvre the two shows around each other for a run each time so that we constantly think we are getting one series of one, then another and then back again, whereas both shows stopped being made donkeys ago! Quincy stars Jack Klugman as Quincy ME, the doctor who cannot resist getting his little grey cells into gear for a juicy ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Quincy: The American Inspector Morse? (880 words)

The scene is set. Eerie music introduces the setting, which is a laboratory. We see test tubes, flasks, bunsen burners and a microscope. There is a man looking through the microscope. He looks up, and then some clever trousers in the graphics department slaps a big green 'Q' on his face.... Yes, the man is Quincy. I am not too sure what his first name is, but then again I don't think anybody knows. This man is more secretive about his first name than Inspector Morse was. What can it be? Lucretia? Or is it his first name? But that would make his surname M.E. Or is the M.E. his first name? Mary-Ellen? Did he have parents with a warped imagination? Does ...  Read the complete review

Gawd bless the BBC. Ah, they know how to fill an afternoon. For years now we've been treated to such delights as Ironside, Perry Mason and Diagnosis Murder (with Dick van Dyke AND HIS SON Barry van Dyke. Grand), but by far the best of the BBC's daytime offerings is Quincy. Yes, Jack Klugman (the man, the myth) stars as the charasmatic forensic scientist, Quincy, yet another tv character who wishes he was a policeman but isn't. But, oh, Quincy, what a guy you are. You live on a boat of all things (just like Columbo's coat and cigars, read unconventional, a man who does what he wants and sitcks to his guns), you shout a lot, you never do much actual ...  Read the complete review

You are about the enter the most fascinating sphere of the TV/Movie category – An opinion on Qunicy. …BA – BABA – BA – BUM BA – BABA –BOM…. Well there was my rip off of the opening credits – sorry for that. Quincy, a product of the 1970’s, has solved the BBC’s early afternoon problems. Every weekday from 2:05pm housewives and husbands across the country lay their vacuum cleaners down, students stop their perpetual partying (sorry studying) and anyone else who happens to be in at that time sits back to watch the 50 minute long programme. Quincy (Jack Klugman) is the Chief ...  Read the complete review
