Advantages: Absolutely none whatsoever
Disadvantages: Everything about the programme
I suppose I shouldn't be reviewing this programme having only ever watched one episode. I just could not stand having to listen to Gordon Ramsey's dreadful language and the awful way he treats those who aren't quite as 'clever' or as famous as he is. I think he's an obnoxious aggressive person and find it hard to believe that he is allowed to get away with such behaviour. Even the trailers for the series are aggressive.
When television was first launched for the masses, it had a remit which was to 'educate, inform and entertain'. Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares is so far from that remit that it should have been ditched as soon as the idea was first presented. I know standards have dropped but Kitchen Nightmares has plumbed new depths.
In Kitchen Nightmares Gordon Ramsey is a 'celebrity chef' who cooks various dishes whilst berating those who are in the kitchen with him.
I fail to understand how, being a family man, he can produce such a dismal programme - does he allow his children to watch it, I wonder? I know it's after the so-called 'watershed' which is supposed to protect children from such awful language and behaviour, but so many now have televisions in their bedrooms that it must be difficult to monitor all the programmes they watch. Gordon Ramsey has, of course, become a 'celebrity' and the youngsters will naturally want to watch him and will inevitably learn from him. He could and should have used the privileges bestowed on him by his ill-gained fame to help raise standards on televion, not stood by happily churning out such rubbish. Obviously, it pays or the producers would have pulled the plug on it years ago but it just saddens me that it is now seen as acceptable for bad language and naked aggression to be considered worthy of screening at peak viewing time.
Summary: Should have been burnt to a crisp years ago

- 24/08/08 I agree. I tried watching it, but gave up after a few minutes. Life is too short. Anyone that obnoxious could not survive in a real business environment. |

- 24/08/08 I disagree Gordon is Gordon and if you watch his programme you know what he will be like. The show is enjoyable how he turns things around and it is interesting to see the obnoxious owners that think they know better. Not to everyone's taste tho. |

- 23/08/08 I like the UK one but the US one feels contrived and showey. |
