Advantages: Sometimes he delivers a classic one liner

Disadvantages: Bullying is a switch off

I do not know what it is about Gorden Ramsey, the former footballer turned TV celebrity chef has the ability to really make me loath him at times when he is in full on bully mode yet at other times I find him funny and engaging to watch and you cannot help but feel sympathy for him when he is faced with an utter numpty who refuses to take his advice while their restaurat falls apart around them.

The idea behind this Channel Four show is pretty basic, Gordon goes into a failing restaurant and attempts to change its fortunes by dishing out some home truths to the owners and staff. Each episode is an hour long and he meets with varying levels of success dependant on to what extnt his advice is followed.

In order to keep the programme fresh there is a US version which is far more entertaining mainly because Americans are harder to like so when Gordon is in full rant mode wth lots of swearing you feel less sorry for the American owner / chef as they can be so obnoxious and arrogant themsleves. Also as Ramsey is not so famous over there they are less likely to accept his advice making for a more entertaining show.

This is really car crash TV and I do have to be in the right mood to watch it otherwise Ramsey just annoys me with his arrogance and bad language. Having said that I can see the appeal for some people and can appreciate why his shows are always successful.

Summary: Cooking show with a difference
