SOME FACTS
Richard and Judy a magazine style programme with a coffee table approach. The show is presented by the married couple Richard and Judy every weekday between 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm on channel 4. The show regularly attracts up to 2.5 million viewers a day up to 42% are ABC1s (rather up market).
THE SHOW
Richard and Judy are a middle aged couple (I think he is a little younger at least he looks it on screen). They say the have children and talk about them and the family often. For most of the show you see the couple sitting in comfortable armchairs in front of the camera. Guests come in and discuss items of interest they normally sit on a sofa or comfortable chair nearby. The programme includes news and re active items, light informal features, reports and big name interviews. Guests have included PM Tony Blair, Bill and Hillary Clinton and Elton John.
Viewers are often invited to join in conversation with Richard and Judy via the telephone about items on the show. The viewers often question guests via a television link. Inserts of film articles on popular subjects often on location. Sometimes the resident psychologist questions them and makes comments. At present they have a daily quiz section with chosen viewers via the telephone and I have seen cookery items. They have recently introduced a wine club with a fare at Kenwood this summer. Today the programmes covers women & football, Ian Mckellen and julian Carey talk about a gay event in London soon.
MY OPINION
My problem with the show is the length of time. I think 1 hour is rather a long time for an item at this time (prime time) I normally watch over my evening meal 1 or 2 times a week or when I have time. I guess you can always tune in to watch a particular item, 45 minutes would be better. It is worth checking a head to see if the show has a big name guest you might like to know more about. These interviews are light hearted and in keeping with the time and status of the channel. They don’t have to many slots for commercial breaks.
Summary: One hour late afternoon chat and entertainment
