Advantages: Compelling , A must for Sci-fi Fans, Intelligent
Disadvantages: Finishing after season 3!, Nothing.
Roswell or Roswell High as it was know during its first season due to the fact that most of the happenings occurred during the group’s high school years, is a sci-fi series. The second season dropped the 'high' from its title to introduce a new maturer image to the cult sci-fi show. Roswell is the setting in New Mexico America where a group of teenagers have special powers to do including the power to heal. It is only during a shoot out at the Crash Down diner, Liz Parker, a local high school student gets shot and its up to Max to help her out, the only problem being that by healing her, their identities would be discovered. Whose identities I hear you ask, well those of Max, Isabel and Michael. The powers that they have are somewhat otherworldly and that it just what they are – out of this world. Yes if you haven’t guessed it by now, they are ALIENS, alien hybrids in fact cloned from various DNA including human! After Max (seen as the leader of the group) heals Liz, she begins to question what actually happened, as does sheriff Valenti. When Liz discovers his secret, it looks as though the whole cat is out of the bag but Liz promises to keep quiet as she knows it could be the end of the aliens. The story goes, two young children (Max and Isabel) were found wandering the desert and were taken in by a loving couple and adopted by the Evans. Another child – Michael was also adopted but by a different couple. As the children grow up they discover their powers and have to keep them a secret from their parents. Liz lets her best friend Maria into the secret as well as Alex Liz’s best male friend. Liz and Max develop a mutual love for each other but whether they can stay together is another thing entirely! The group try to avoid being discovered as well as starting a search for clues as to who they actually are and where they came from. Much more occurs over these series and it is up to you to see what happens as I a
m not one to spoil it for another person. This show has been gripping ever since it started and I haven’t stopped watching it since as it just keeps getting better. The show started on Sky 1 on Thursdays at 8pm about 2 or 3 years ago and I know that the 1st season had been shown on BBC2 at some stage. On Sky one, Roswell is on its 3rd season and very compelling it is as things have spiralled completely out of control. Sadly news in America is that Fox has decided not to do another series which is of similar surprise with other American shows such as the X files and Ally Mc Beal. It seems as though they are cutting back and sadly Roswell is one of the shows which had the chop. In the US Roswell was aired on the WB channel which shares (or now shared) the same channel as the likes of Buffy and Angel at the time and Charmed. During the start of season 3 though, Roswell moved to UPN where Buffy currently is. Lets hope BBC 2 starts again and re-shows the first season as well as the other 2 or at least channel 4 who also have Angel on their books. Cast. Liz Parker - Shiri Appleby Max Evans - Jason Behr Isabel Evans - Katherine Heigl Maria DeLuca - Majandra Delfino Michael Guerin - Brendan Fehr Alex Whitman - Colin Hanks (yes it is Tom Hanks son) Tess Harding - Emilie de Ravin (Fourth Alien from group) Jesse Ramirez - Adam Rodriguez (Isabel’s Husband in season 3) Jim Valenti - William Sadler (Sheriff) Kyle Valenti - Nick Wechsler (Sheriffs Son) The show is full of plots and themes of deceit, betrayal destiny and the supernatural. The show hosts a great cast who have remained strong in the 3 seasons it has aired in the US and UK. The show sometimes makes me laugh, think and also feel somewhat saddened by the development within the story of the Roswell Aliens.
