The Royle Family, written by Caroline Aherne and Craig Cash (who play Denise and Dave), is the best new sitcom for years, and the BBC have got it totally right by deciding to move this programme from BBC2 to BBC1.
The format sounds extremely boring, but the humour comes in the fact that The Royle Family are exactly the same as most British families - whether we like it or not.
It is set at the house of, yes you've guessed it, the Royle family, home of Barbara, Jim and their son Anthony. Anthony is always doing all the work in the house, while Jim sits watching the television shouting "My Arse!" Denise, the daughter, is the lazy mother who leaves husband Dave to look after "Baby David". Other characters include Jim's friend Twiggy, fat neighbour Cheryl, Anthony dim friend Darren and Barbara's mother Norma.
If you have never seen The Royle Family then I suggest you start as it is one of the funniest comedies ever.
