Samantha Who is an America sitcom that has been shown on E4 here since the first series and is quite a funny show. It is on the second season now and is shown on Monday evenings at 10pm.
In the first episode we first meet the title character Samantha. She is just coming out of an 8 day coma after being hit by a car. She finds out that she has retrograde amnesia and even though she knows how to go about daily life she has no idea who she is or what her past life was like. She doesn't know anybody or anything she used to do. Doesn't sound much like a comedy, as people obviously have problems like this, but it is done in a light hearted way.
The first season was better in my view, as it was unlike any other show and you got to learn a bit of what Samantha used to be like and what she is trying to be like thesedays because she finds out she was not a very nice person. She is a vice-president in a Chicago realty firm and going back to work is a real challenge. She finds out her assistant is scared of her and that she is a bit of a bitch. In the second series she knows more and sees what she did in the past but the first series she has to rely on other people.
Samantha takes her amnesia as a sign that she needs to change and become a nicer, better person.
Samantha is played by Christina Applegate, who was on the 90's show as Kelly in Married with Children, and in the movie The Sweetest Thing. She fits the part good.
Before her accident she hadn't spoken to her mother for two years. Her parents try to help her along and are glad she's back in the house, but this doesn't last long, as Samantha tends to want to think she knows best.
Samantha then has two best friends. Firstly there is Andrea, her co-worker who is a party girl and she wishes Samantha would go back to how she was before the accident, a party girl and bitchy as she thinks she's more fun like this but she still sticks with her although she has changed. Her other friend, Dena, who she actually hasn't seen since the seventh grade. In her nasty days Samantha would never have been friends with someone like Dena, and her and Andrea are poles apart, but they are both good for Samantha in their own strange way.
Todd is Samantha's long suffering boyfriend. They have an on/off relationship. I think she tend to wear the trousers in the relationship and can be quite mean to him, but she gets away with it.
The episodes last for 30 minutes with 1 break in them. This is about a third through the second series, and who knows if there will be a third series. It's not the kind of show that I think will go on forever, but it is different that others out there and entertaining.
