This is one of my favourite Sunday morning shows. The type of thing you watch while you're just lazing around waiting for Mass to begin (or the pub to open, whichever's your thing!) The concept of the show is simple enough; two teams go head to head to build a machine from the scrap they find in a scrap yard. The machines can be just about anything, from drag racers to speed boats, medieval catapults to threshing machines. Each team is given an 'expert' in that field, and they have ten hours to cobble something together. The show is fronted by Robert Llewellyn (of Red Dwarf fame) and Lisa Rogers. Through the programme, aided by cartoon stick ... Read the complete review

WHAT IS IT ABOUT: Teams of engineers have ten hours to create a machine for a specific purpose from items taken from a scrap yard. Robert Llewellyn hosts, and the results are judged by an expert from the field of the challenge. Typical projects are to make things like a car crusher, a jet car, or a machine that will lob a mini really far! IS IT ANY GOOD: I suppose you already know whether this show will appeal to you by reading the above sentences; clearly it's not for everyone! The brilliance of the show is that it encourages both creativity and intellect, and only when the two seemingly opposite skills are combined does the project really ... Read the complete review

Scrapheap Challenge is a programme whereby members of the general public (that have technical know how and ability) are given the task of producing a fully functional machine to complete a pre-determined challenge. Each team consists of three people and each episode two teams go head to head to build a machine and complete a challenge. The challenges are varied and whilst the team are ultimately responsible for the build of the machine they are assigned an expert to give ideas, help and guidance as necessary. At the start of each show the hosts, Robert Llewellyn and Lisa Rogers, brief the teams on the task they have to complete and then give them a ... Read the complete review

Scrapheap challenge is a great, entertaining TV programme, not only for the males of the family, but also can be fun and very watchable for everyone. Before I go any further, I'd like to make it clear that I am female, and not into engineering in any sense of the word, and this isn't a programme that I would have chosen to watch, but because I ended up watching it with my husband I've grown to love it, and to look forward to seeing it. The programme is basically a contest between two teams of three members, who together with an 'expert' have to build something to fill the challenge that the programme sets them, from a heap of scrap, and then compete ... The series of Scrapheap Challenge has been an entertaining fun programme with some of the funniest characters you are likely to find. The programme is presented by Robert Llewellyn, better known as Kryton from Red Dwarf, and inevitable female interest Cathy Lodges. Poor Cathy hardly gets much of a look-in while Llewellyn goes way over the top. The programme involves two teams who have to meet a challenge to build a usuable machine from pieces they (apparently) find in a scrapyard. In the final the challenge was to build a drag vehicle. One team - the Megalomaniacs -built a motorcycle whilst a team of Brothers built a conventional but ultimately flawed car. The ... Read the complete review
