Advantages: Very funny
Disadvantages: Never can get enough
This must be one of the funniest shows currently over here from the States and it has been great to watch the characters develop over the number of series that have been covered.
The show follows the characters in a Miami hospital Sacred Heart and each 30 minute episode is packed full of comedy.
The main character is JD played by Zack Braff, the first episode sees him starting out as an intern along with two other new faces at the hospital, Turk his best friend from university who is a surgeon intern and Elliott another medical intern played b Sarah Calke who used to be in Rosanne. A lot of the comedy comes from when the action takes place in the nerdy JD mind as he imagines some weird scenes and these cut away scenes allow the comedy to be more surreal.
JD looks up to Doctor Cox who is an egotistical bully who always calles him by a girls name and then there is the head of the hospital Bob who is a cold hearted operator who cares only if the patients have insurance.
As a medical comedy there are a host of other characters in the show as well, its strength lies in the sharp dialogue and the buddy buddy feel of the interaction between the mian characters. Another strength is the fact that the characters have developed over time as has their relationships and the current series has them all maturing in their relationships and professions to the extent where the viwere begins to empathise and care about them as characters.
Easily my favourite show on TV at the moment and the current series is on E4 on Thursday at 21.00.
Summary: Excellent US comedy
