Sesame Street

Description: Jim Henson muppets in children's educational series.

Newest Review: ... Monster is one of my faves. He was often used for education purposes, counting how many cookies he had left. Cookie was quite scary looking but was a dear at heart. Sesame Street hit the screens back in 1969 and to date is the longest running American children's television show. The show has spurned some spin off feature films and countless merchandise, from lunchboxes to cuddly talking ... more

... elmos. It is always a joy to watch and the balance of entertainment against comedy is pitched very well, with some very intelligent scriptingwriting at times....more

I simply had to venture a review for this wonderful programme. Sesame Street for me is associated with being ill and off school, sat in bed with a lucazade close by and Sesame Street on tv. It was almost worth trying to make yourself sick somehow, just to catch some of this wonderful show. What is it about? It's a kid's show, which combines muppet antics with education and humour. The show also featured real life humans and sometimes had special guest appearances from celebrities. Characters: Big Bird was the mainstay here, a rather camp big yellow bird, who strolled around, clothes free, being overly friendly to anyone he met. ...  Read the complete review

Even if it did teach kids the American pronounciaton of the alphabet Sesame Street was still a great way of learning for those pre school children who did not have the choice of endless cartoons on the TV like they do these days. Jim Henson muppets provided the backdrop for much of what went on in this educational programme and leading the way was Big Bird, a huge yellow ostrich type bird that frequented the street. This was also a programme that highlighted the diversity in America, growing up in a very white area of rural England this was an amazing insight for me into a world beyond the place that I grew up, of course it was only later on that I realised ...  Read the complete review

Because we walk around in a constant stupor, testament to years of drug and alcohol abuse, and eating "plain flavoured jelly", because we like the taste of beef gelatine, we're never quite sure if the things we recall from our youth were really as great as we think. Seemingly, once a week nowadays, we suffer from a sudden excruciating pang - and not only when those small children who keep trying to throw stones at our greenhouse are in town. No, what we feel are the rumblings of nostalgia, for a time when almost everything was cheaper, better made or nicer. Even the spoons were better back then. Possibly. So, Sesame Street. One of the staples ...  Read the complete review

All I ever wanted as a child was to be one of those cute little black kids on Sesame Street. I wanted to be cooed at by millions for running around with my front teeth missing, hugging Kermit and counting to twelve. Speaking of twelve, how many of you out there can count to twelve? Hands up! And hands up how many of you ever watched Sesame Street? You call *that* a coincidence? You see, for a relatively old children's TV program, Sesame Street had the right idea about early years education. The makers really knew how to make learning fun. They removed adults almost completely, bar a few uncle and aunt types who appear every so often to make sure ...  Read the complete review

I met my wife because of Sesame Street Embarrasing as it is, this is true. Years ago, I was made redundant, and was struggling to find a new job. My initial enthusiasm for job-seeking was waning as I got more and more rejection letters. I got into the habit of plonking myself in front of the TV and watching all manner of drivel. I watched the battle between Richard and Judy, and Good Morning with Anne and Nick, with little enthusiasm. Can't Cook Won't Cook became the pathetic highlight of the morning. Then, whilst bored with the news, I flicked onto Channel 4. Not expecting much from lunchtime TV, I sat and watched. I never ...  Read the complete review
