Sex and the City

Newest Review: ... reflects on the ups and downs of being a 35+ year old woman dating in the big apple. An avid watcher of the series may find themselves endeared to Carrie; she is likeable, attractive- but not so much to be a threat, a quality which many women find agreeable. She also has an earnest character whilst making mistakes like the rest of us. Indeed the series documents the many mistakes that the characters make alongside their trials and tribulations. Samantha Jones is a promiscuous PR executive whose extensive sexscapades bring both nudity and an element of adult humour to the table. Some of her characteristics would be described as overtly ... more

Sex and the City is arguably the most iconic and culturally symbolic TV series of our decade. Centred around the lives of close-knit friends Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Charlotte York and Miranda Hobbes the programme zooms in on the preoccupations of these independent female city dwellers. Whilst the programme showcases each character generously and enables them to shine, Carrie Bradshaw is undoubtedly the female protagonist around which the programme revolves. Her sole cameo appearance in the title sequence where she can be seen waltzing through Manhattan underlines this. She also heavily contributes to the audio track with her voiceovers often reading ...  Read the complete review

Sex and the City was a HBO TV series which started showing on UK TV screens in the late 1990s. It centres around 4 Manhattan women, and the love lives of each. The show aired for 6 series, and has since been made into a movie. A second movie is currently in production. The main character in the show is Carrie. Carrie is neurotic, sometimes contrary, with a very unique sense of style and is looking for Mr Right, yet deep down even the greatest man never measures up to her long term Mr Right, Big. Throughout the series we see Carrie and Big fall in and out of love, and while they do finally end up together, you have to question if a relationship can really be ...  Read the complete review

Oh, where to begin when reviewing the worldwide phenomenon that has become of the sitcom Sex and the City? American television network HBO first aired the show in 1998 and brought it to a close in 2004 after 6 seasons, leaving millions of fans hungry for more. The immense popularity and huge fan base that the show generated, in my opinion is largely down to the true indulgence that it provides as a television show. Four extremely likeable characters, best friends in New York provide someone for everyone to relate to, and the gay male fan base it attracts is just as big. For a quick rundown Wikipedia will tell you the following: "Set in New York ...  Read the complete review

I have sort of flirted with this show rather than becomming a true fan and I thought that the film spin off was rather disappointing but then again none of the stars of the TV show had really had much post Sex and the City success so cashing in with a film was an obvious choice. The TV show followed the lives of four single career women in New York City and centred on Carrie a successful journalist whose weekly column on dating exeriences provided the narrationfor each episode and her voice was often heard setting the scene in each episode and her character was the one who was a little independent but also a bit vulnerable and rather ditsy at times but not in ...  Read the complete review
