Advantages: Fun, good characters, great storylines.

Disadvantages: Very addictive

I had never watched the sex and the city series and when the movie came out it took all the hype to persuade me to watch the series first and then the film, as i was told this would help me understand the film. I was told by a number of friends I would enjoy this series and they were certainly right.

I actually purchased the boxset for a very reasonable price of 49.99, although repeats are also shown on tv, on channels such as paramount and fiver.

It did not take me long at all to really get in to the storylines and the characters. Although it does run along as a storyline through all the episodes it is also possible to watch one episode in isolation although you may not understand as well some of the jokes etc.

The four main characters are very different which is what makes the programme so good. What they have in common is they are all single (to begin) and friendship always ends up being the most important thing to them.

The first character is Carrie who is the main story teller who writes a sex column for the New York Times and uses her and her friends experiences for this. The main story throughout is her on/off relationship with the man known as Mr Big which begins in the first episode.

Another character is Samantha who is slightly older than the other girls but doesn't let this get in the way of her sexual exploits. She isn't looking for a relationship but rather just a good time. Her job as a top PR person allows the girls to all get invited to the best parties and events.

In complete contrast to Samantha is Charlotte. She is the prim and proper girl whose only dream is to get married and have a baby. This comes at more of a challenge than she originally thought though.

Last but not least is Miranda, she is a high flying solicitor who becomes partner of her firm. She is fiercely independent and very opinionated. Through various events through the 6 series she softens and realises she doesn't need to be the way she is.

If you like girly chat, gossip, romance, laughs and fashion they this will probably be a programme that you will enjoy watching. It does become very addictive though!

Summary: A programme for those that know the value of friendship.
