Advantages: they just speak what we all think!, love the outfits!, although it makes you feel all glamorous being a single, doesn't forget that there are lonely and sad days...
Disadvantages: better not to watch with granny...
Are we dating the same guy over and over again? Are soulmates a reality or a torture device? Is sex on your own the best sex? Are men just women with balls? We see a young, sexy and attractive woman typing these lines into her laptop. This is Carrie (Jessica Parker), our focal point of the series. She is a thirtysomething and these lines aren’t only titles of her articles that she writes for a Ney York lifestyle magazine but also the questions she and her three best friends ask themselves. Her best friends... Well, there is Samantha (Kim Catrall). She heads a PR company and organises an awful lot of these „In-parties“ in Manhattan. She has a very open and free approach to sex and doesn’t concern herself with morals or fear of a bad reputation... she just enjoys life and all it has to offer. There is also Charlotte (Kristin Davis), she runs a galerie and in contrast to Samantha has high moral standards and believes in old values and tradition. She is looking for Mr. Right, dreams of the perfect wedding and is sometimes shocked of herself, for example when she enjoys sex without love. And last but not least there is Miranda (Cynthia Nixon). She is a successful lawyer, who sometimes has doubts about her own femininity and (especially at the beginning of the series) believes that she will never find a man again. As I already said above, Carrie is a journalist and for a hip magazine in New York and communicates hr thoughts and feelings directly to the audience while she writes her column. She meets Mr. Big (Chris Noth) – the perfect man .... with a phobia of commitment. The four girs meet regularly to go out at night or during the day, for example for breakfast or lunch and discuss their current lovelife. These conversations are exactly what makes Sex and the City so interesting. They talk exactly as they feel, just like women in normal life would. Whereas it is still
quite unusual to hear the f-word in many other tv-shows, here even the c-word can be heard on a regular basis. I guess every woman can see a bit of a Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte or Miranda in herself and identify with their problems whether they are talking about Sex with their Ex, age differences, masturbation or selfdoubts – we’ve all been there... The series already won numerous prizes (Golden Globes etc) and is known to be a real trendsetter. Girls in the whole world copy Cariies look, look for Manolo Blahniks, Jimmy Choos, Fendi Baguettes or Corsages. One main reason why I love watching SatC is the clothes... The vibrator Rampant Rabbit became so popular that it was only available on the black market and shopping is allowed to be celebrated as an artform. So girls: if guys are driving you mad or you are in the mood for sex or shopping and can’t have either of these, a dose of Sex and the City is exactly what you need! And guys: I guess you’d find plenty of entertainment here as well, guess Sarah being half naked at times helps.... besides that, you never know, you might learn something as well... ;-)
