Advantages: Good acting , Funny, Can relate to

Disadvantages: Very explicit!!

I recall hearing about Sex and the city in 1998, and thought - oh, how tacky. Four slags shagging every man they see in Manhattan! But little was I to know in four years I’d be the greatest fan in the world...

I was first introduced to this by a friend. We were talking about T.V. show's and so on, and saw we both watched exactly the same, apart from one programme that she loved and I'd never given a chance - Sex and the City.

Funnily enough a few days later the third season was starting on Channel 4. So I watched it. I loved it. I'd seen only one episode but felt I knew all the characters well and how they felt.

It's not all about sex; most of it is about feelings. Each woman, whether it be Charlotte, Miranda, Carrie or Samantha, have each had her heart broken in one of the five seasons. Don't get me wrong though, there is sex...

As HBO - the satellite channel that air the series - said when it first aired
"This is them most sexual programme on TV."
He was absolutely right. Nothing in my life has made me gasp and watch with a stiff upper lip before today - until this!

It's one of those programmes that are addictive. Very addictive! When season three - there have been five seasons so far - finished on channel 4 in December, getting ready for the fifth to air in January, I started getting lonely!! I had been watching these fantastic sexual, extraordinary episodes of a brilliant series for more than 4 months, and now it was gone.

There was only one thing to do - buy a box set of it. When it arrived I was ecstatic! I'd ordered Season one, so I was intrigued how they introduced the characters. The first episode, to be honest, wasn't great. It was satisfactory. But the rest were brilliant. You saw the characters progress.

After watching it I felt at ease. But then I was lonely again. So I watched them all over again. And again. But in a couple of more day
s after watching the episodes three times over, I was getting lonely once again!

So I looked on the Internet at season 2 and 4 - the other thirty-two episodes I hadn't seen. I couldn't buy them, could I? Yes.

By the middle of January I'd bought - Season 4 then Season 2, I'd seen Season 3 was there any point to buy it? Yes. And Season 3.

So, I have all the box sets of it, and I'm £95 down in money!! If you've ever watched Sex and the City you'll be laughing at me, but if you've never seen it - You think I'm mad and spending almost 100 quid on videos is stupid. I have one thing to say to them people - Watch it, and you'll understand!

It makes you laugh so much. There are hilarious one-liners, and the scriptwriters are excellent. They write fantastically, better than I’ve ever seen a before.

**The Actors**

Sarah Jessica-Parker - Carrie Bradshaw

Samantha Jones - Kim Cattral

Charlotte York - Kristin Davis

Miranda Hobbes - Cynthia Nixon

**What's It About?**

Carrie Bradshaw is a writer for the New York Times - paper in New York - that is called Sex and the City. She writes about her relationships with men and obviously about sex.

What I've always wondered is does the sex in sex and the city stand for sexual intercourse or gender. What does it stand for? Because it's as much about women looking for perfect men as it is about sex.

In each episode we see her writing the column and she asks a question. For example - Are all men freaks? Can women have sex like men? And at the end of programme she comes to a conclusion of the question, which really keeps you thinking about it throughout the day. Any programme that keeps you thinking about it for longer than you are watching it is clever, I think.

**The Characters**

Carrie Bradshaw

When we last saw her - in season 5 - sh
e was 36. She has had two major relationships. Her love of her life was Mr Big. The excellence of the story is - we don't actually know his name. And any programme that can keep a popular characters first name secret for seventy-four episodes is extraordinary.

She also has Aidan Shaw. He's, in my opinion the perfect partner for her, but the troubles come to the surface again, just like her relationship with Mr Big.

Carrie is the main character. but she certainly isn't my favourite. She's a very selfish character, and she always worries about herself, and herself only.

I think Carrie is how most women what to imagine themselves like, and say they'd like to be like her. In my opinion, she's the worst out of the lot.

She is extremely selfish, and she has so many men troubles. But, even with her little flawes, I still love her!

Samantha Jones

She is certainly my favourite. She has had numerous sexual lovers, and treats them like shit! She comes across all macho and unloving, but underneath that hard shell is a woman desperate for love.

She is the most comic out of them all, to be honest. She has so many lovers and comes out with funny one-liners about then. For example she meets a fire man and says
"Hello... 911... I'm on fire!"

Without Samantha Sex and the City wouldn't have been noticed for it's explicit sex scenes! She's the one that has all the contreversary sex sessions.

She's pure brilliance, and she's very typical of some women. You think they're slags, and even them themselves think they're slags, but underneath, all she wants is Mr Right.

Miranda Hobbes

Miranda is very funny, and the 'male' of the group. I say this, because she is very set about her ways, and she's pretty tough with men.

Miranda comes out with funny things, and she's the one that's chang
ed the least since the pilot episode that was aired years ago.

She's the only one that has had a child, and I think she's the one who has/would have coped with it the best, because she's the one who sorts the problems of the others out. She's very motherly.

Many women are like Miranda as well, and I think that's something to be proud of. She's the nicest out of the lot, and certainly the loyalest friend!

Charlotte York/McCdougal

Charlotte is desperate for a baby. Desperate for a husband. Desperate for a house up-state. That's all she wants to happen to her.

All of the other girls, don't really care, or at least don't act like they care, but all she wishes for is the love of her life to sweep her off her feet.

She comes across like an innocent character, but she certainly isn't! She's had a lot of lovers in the programme, and she totally fools you.

She doesn't like swearing, and she's not too keen on speaking about sex, unless she has to. She's a funny character to watch, and she's very funny at times.

She does manage to fullfil her dreams at one point in the programme, but it doesn't go plain sailing!

**My Opinion**

Sex and the city is one of the most contraversial programmes I've ever seen. It's aired on cable TV in the USA, because it's so explicit.

Like many programmes it's ending whilst it's ahead. The sixth, and final season, will be airing in August next month.

It has a massive 20 episodes. 12 to air in August, and the final 8 to come the following year.

I thought that season 5 was rather dissapointing. It had 8 episodes instead of the 18, because Sarah Jessica Parker was pregnant.

They tried to hide her bump -not very well- and it wasn't very well written! I think, because of that, they should have done a seventh, just for us!

Th
e Show's as much about Clothes as it is Sex! Some people tune in, just to see what the characters are wearing!

In Season 5, S-J-P was hiding her bump, and although you could tell, it was only because you were looking at it throughout!

If you've never seen Sex and the City, give it a go. If you don't like it, leave it, if you do, you'll be hooked!

**Video's and DVD's**

You can buy Season 1 Sex and the City from Woolworths, for £19,99 on video. Season 2 for £19,99. Season 3 for £28,99, and Season 4 for £24,99. DVD's cost just a bit more.

**Final Thoughts**

So, watch. Enjoy. Have Fun. And don't forget to ask the question- Which One Are You?

I love this. Gives an insight into the way in which women think. But as each woman is different it doesn't help (unless Sarah Jessica Parker pops into my local in which case I am so in there!)
