Advantages: "d'oh", 'WooHoo", "mmmmm donuts" - great humour, entertaining, always on tv and easy to watch

Disadvantages: none

Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons launched the show way back in 1987 as a series of short cartoons on 'The Tracey Ullman Show'. After three seasons as shorts they were commissioned for television and Americas best loved family made it on to their own full length cartoon episodes, "Woo Hoo!" (as Homer says).

The story tells of the families crazy life, lived in a small town called Springfield. The Simpson family revolved primarily around the following characters:-

Homer Simpson - "D'oh" - father, husband, complete idiot, works at the local nuclear plant

Marge Simpson - mother, wife, giant blue hair, forever cleaning up after Homer and the kids

Bart Simpson - brother, son, hell-raiser

Maggie Simpson - sister, daughter, can't speak yet is very expressive and active

Lisa Simpson - sister, daughter, child prodigy essentially, all in all a good girl that does well in school but often is picked on because of this

Stories range from a who-dunnit style 'who shot Mr Burns?' to an elephant Bart wins on a radio call show. Always varied the antics have entertained us since the 80's and continue to do so, with the show in its 21st!! season now!. A full-length movie, console games and a huge string of merchandise has assured The Simpsons are a household name and loved by most.

On a personal level i feel The Simpsons has gone down hill in terms of the humour in the latest series though, as i have not watched many of the new ones, i feel it would be unjust to judge too harshly.

Summary: entertaining, funny and a great family show
