Advantages: Mr Burns

Disadvantages: same jokes

A wonderful programme which never seems to be off the tele! I thought I would venture a few thoughts about what the programme means to me.

What is it:

Surely you don't need telling? The Simpsons is a cartoon about a dysfunctional American family. Mainly focusing on the slobbish but lovable Homer.

When:

It has been around since 1990 and is still being made to this day. Celebrities queue up to get spots in the show.

Can I buy it:

Fox release the seasons on DVD. You can also buy special episodes on DVD, such as the Treehouse Of Horror episodes. Expect to pay about £30 for a box set though.

Good points:

The range of character voices is incredible. Hats off to Harry Shearer and Hank Azaria who do the most voices. They seem to be able to bring humour to every character they touch.

The stories are always funny. The humour is not not vile, like in South Park. It does not rely on swearing to make jokes. The humour is smart, refined and often very knowing.

The animation is superb, there are often lots of little things going on in the background to pick up on too.

The music score remains original and engaging and the show benefits from strong musical numbers every now and then.

Mr Burns is just comic genius, he should have his own show.

Bad points:

A lot of the episodes are heavily centred on Homer, while he is the focal point I would sometimes like to see other characters explored in more depth. The newer episodes are starting to tackle this though.

The reliance on jokes about donuts and indulgence are wearing a trifle thin

Lisa's voice! It is SO annoying and whiney!

Verdict:

Smarter than South Park, more fun than Futurama and a good way to relax in front of the box

I don't like that a lot of new episodes aren't centred around Homer, nothing beats Homer :D

Lisa's voice is whiney.
