Disadvantages: none
The Simpsons has been around since December 1989 and was created by Matt Groening and the fox broadcasting company. It is centered around the American Simpson family consisting of Homer, Marge, Lisa, Bart and baby Maggy. They live in Springfield, a fictional town in America and are surrounded by familiar characters like Ned Flanders, their neighbour and Mr Burns, the town Millionaire.
The show doesn't have bad language and is on before the watershed so it is suitable for younger children to watch. My little boy is three and loves it. It is humourous with the slapstick and cheeky comedy and the naughty catchphrases from Bart.
Each episode is generally different and don't follow on like Eastenders or something, so one episode can be about Bart meeting a girl, and another episode can be about Snake, a criminal on the show, trying to murder Bart.
At haloween, the producers make a 'scary episode' that is special for haloween, not really scary, but always good. I often prefer these episodes to the normal ones and find them more funny, like the one where Homer has a hair transplant and the hair is from a killer so he turns evil.
There are rarely new characters which means you stay with the originals which I like about the show although there are sometimes one off celebrity appearences which are fun.
There are a variety of DVDs that you can buy that have different episodes on. You can get them from shops like Hmv and offline from Amazon and ebay for as little as £3.00.
Overall, I think that this is a great animated show for adults and kids, I love to settle down and watch it after our tea, normally about 6 on channel 4 during the week. It's great because it isn't too silly like kid cartoons, but it isn't innapropriate like Family guy so kids and adults can enjoy it.
Summary: A great family show.
