Advantages: Realistic chars, wonderfully written and v. funny.

Disadvantages: Animation not that good.

I think that the main reason The Simpson’s has become so popular is that each of us can relate to one of the characters. All of us know a Marge (the nagging house wife and Mother), a Homer (the fat, lazy, beer loving couch potato, an embarrassment to the family, yet loveable in an almost childlike sort of way), a Bart (the naughty little boy always up to mischief) and a Lisa (the high achieving, musically talented little girl with a mind of her own).

There is also baby Maggie, who is yet to say a word and dozens of other chars, such as Ned Flanders, the deeply religious do-er of good deeds, Moe, the bitter owner of the local bar, Mr. Burns, Homer’s cruel employer, his side kick Smithers, who fancies the pants off Mr. Burns and collects dolls, and Krusty the Clown, Bart’s ‘hero’.

These characters are so realistic it’s almost like watching a soap or a fly-on-the-wall documentary!

Incredibly, all these delightful characters are voiced by just a few extremely talented actors and actresses, who have been with the show from the beginning. I would say that the animation for the show needs to be better, but the actors really bring their characters to life so there is really no need.

On occasions, there are also highly acclaimed guest stars, ranging from X-Files stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovy to Tom Jones and Barry White, proving that the show is popular with celebrities as well as the with the general public.

Over the years ‘The Simpson’s’ has been showing on Sky and BBC 2, it has just got funnier and funnier. The scripts for the show are incredibly well written. And although the plots are nearly always based around the everyday life of an average American family, they always find a way of making it interesting.

In the Simpson’s world things often go a little crazy! But the yellow faces are there to remind us that the creators did not mean for the s
how to be taken literally. It is like a twisted, wonderfully funny version of our world and definitely not a program for kids.

With a script as good as this the animation is really secondary. Nice review.
