Advantages: funny

Disadvantages: not on often enough

I didn't realise that there were so many reviews of The Simpson's already on here, so I apologise to those of you who have already read more than their fair share.

I write this one from the point of view of a new watcher who previously thought the show was 'just a cartoon' and therefore probably rubbish. My advice to others is to give it a try. I was very surprised at how intelligent, interesting, well written, and most importantly, funny, this show is.

The cartoon is based around the Simpson family. The father, Homor works in a nuclear power plant, and remains their by pure luck rather than any kind of skill in his job. He is a terrible father and has no idea how to look after his wife and children, although there are a few episodes which show how he just manages to survive with a few moments of kindness or clarity.

The mother, Marge, is much more organised and caring. She truely loves her children and does her best to keep the family functioning, despite all Homors efforts to do the opposite. However, for all her good faults, nothing justifies her ridiculous hairstyle!!

The children are the most interesting characters in my opinion. Bart is a typical naughty boy, Maggie the baby, who says very little, and my favourite is Lisa who is far too clever to belong in the family, and often gets them out of tight situations.

The stories are always very clever, sometimes paradying films, sometimes using current events as their basis, but always resulting in the Simpson family winning out in the end.

It really isn't a childrens cartoon, although they would probably find the cruder humour funny. I think the clever scrips and issues dealt with are far better appreciated by adults.

I really like this show, especially since you can watch any episode in any order as it doesn't have a continual storyline like other programmes. The only criticism I have is that there are some episodes I h
ave seen three times, but many I haven't seen yet!!

My advice to any people who haven't watched it yet is to give it a try. Its only 20 mins out of your life if you don't like it, but the chances are you will enjoy it and start watching it more and more, just like I have.

I used to watch it all the time but the novelty has worn off a bit now. I still watch it if it's on but I won't go out of my way to see it!
