Advantages: Funny programme
Disadvantages: Can be a little over the top for small children.
The simpsons are simply one of the best cartoons to ever hit our screens. I say this for many reasons. Their multi age group appeal, their funny humour and their rediculous storylines, all kept in some form of order by a typical mundane life that they lead in their typical suburban town. They started out as a short skit on an American comedy programme hosted by an English comic, Tracey Ullman. In fact when the Tracey Ullman show came to the BBC, they CUT the simpsons out of the show. Years later, they would part with big money to get the rights back again. The voices of the characters in the show come from the stars of the Tracey Ulman Show. So who are the Simpsons? The Simpsons are made up of 6 members of the family but have various other important characters who interact in the cartoon. One thing they all have in common is, they are all YELLOW in colour! Firstly is the main character who caused so much of the hysteria that developed in the early 90's due to his bad behaviour. BART SIMPSON. Must be famous the world over. The Spikey haired youngster is the mischevious son of the family that always wears shorts and likes to cause his father as much hassle as possible. Always behind pranks such as ringing the local bar and asking for comedy names. Also has many famous catchphrases such as "dont have a Cow, Homer" or "eat my shorts". HOMER SIMPSON. The proud father of 3 and husband to Marge. Homer is a larger than life Character due to his obsession with Duff Beer and Do-nuts! Not the most intellectual of people, Homer works in the Nuclear Power Plant for Mr Burns. Always causing accidents due to his clumsy ways, Homer bumbles throught life, often becoming an unlikely hero. Famous for his "Doh!" catchphrase when he gets something wrong. MARGE SIMPSON. Marge is the poor mother who has to provide, cook and clean for her
unruly family. Noted for her gravelly voice and tall blue hair, Marge is kind and considerate. Her 2 sisters are not very pleaseant. LISA SIMPSON. The eldest daughter of the Simpson family. Lisa is the intellectual of the family and the nemesis of Bart. Always arguing and never agreeing unless their favourite programme is on TV, Itchy and Scratchy. She also plays the Saxophone. MAGGIE SIMPSON. The Baby of the family. Never speaks and always sucks her dummy. Does not o much else. GRANDPA SIMPSON. Full of stories of war and very very forgetful. Lives in the nursing home and is a typical "grandparent" Every episode there are plenty of goings on in the town that involve one of the family. Normally Bart or Homer. There are also other people to interact with in Springfield, their hometown. MR BURNS. Mr Burns owns the nuclear powerplant and is Homer's boss. The epithemy of evil, he is out for a quick buck and little else. Safety comes a distant second to profit. BARNEY. Barney is Homer's drinking buddy at Mo's Tavern. Always belching and being drunk, Barney does little else. A bit of a simpleton. MO. Owns the tavern. He is always tormented by the Simpson Children ringing up, pretending to ask for ficticious names that embarrass Mo when he calls them out. NED FLANDERS. Homers Nextdoor neighbour. Too nice for his own good. A god loving, do goody neighbour with a model family. Hatred is mixed with Jealousy for Homer. Flanders if too nice to even realise Homer does not like him. ABU. Abu runs the local conveinience store and charges high prices. He is abviously meant to be Asian by origin. Itchy and Scratchy. An evil version of Tom and Jerry. This Cat and Mouse are disgusting what they do to each other. Crusty the Clown. A strange character that hates kids despite being a chil
dren's entertainer. Always cursing and drinking. If you have not seen it, check it out on BBC2. Its normally on about 6-6:30 and provides some entertaining vewing while you eat your tea.

- 24/09/01 Simpsons is a great mix of humour, as some of the comments made only an adult audience would pick up on, but the kids laugh anyway because its a cartoon! Its great fun... Jenny. |
