Everyone knows the Simpsons, they must be the worlds most famous family by now!!! Originally the Simpsons started as a TV series and is now available on DVD and video. Each episode is 25 minutes long (30 minutes if it's on Sky and you add in the adverts). There are hundreds of episodes of the Simpsons now, I must of seen most of them! Each of them has a different story which is funny, entertaining and has something in it we can all relate to! The Simpson family then, very disorganised and very funny! The family members consist of; Homer: the Dad. Homer works in a Nuclear Power Plant and is completely useless. He is known for drinking a lot of Duff bear and saying Doh lots! Marge; the Mum. Marge is well known for her HUGE blue beehive. Lisa: the eldest daughter, very bright (unlike the rest of the family). Bart: The son, completely useless and always getting into trouble, I would say the main character! Maggie: they youngest daughter, doesnt' say anything, sucks dummy lots. Family pets: Santas Little Helper (doggie!), Snowball 1 (RIP) replaced with Snowball 2!! Each episode evolves around this disorganised family. There are so many episodes it's impossible to describe them all. It's all harmless fun though and (I think) suitable for all ages. There's lots of adult humour but this wouldn't offend anyone and there's lots in the program for younger people too! Very young children probably wouldn't enjoy the program though. The amimation started off very basic. If you look at early episodes of the Simpsons they look very different to the recent episodes and the animation isn't as smooth. They still basically have the same features, everyone is yellow, don't know why they decided this! There are loads of other characters to join the family, other family members include Marges twin sisters Patty and Selma who have very hairy legs I have noticed! Ther
e's also Grampa who is always moaning. At Springfield Elementry we have Mr Skinner the principle who still lives with his mum, Willie the Scottish handyman and Edna, Barts teacher. Otto drives the bus, one of my favourite characters, he is always listening to his walkman and is one of those, "cool" people! Nelson is the school bully. In charge of the town is supposedly Chief Wiggum the police man but he appears to always be eating do-nuts. Mr Burns is a great character, he is Homers boss at the factory. Very wealthy and a creepy man! Smithers is his assistant. One day I think these two will appear on the Jerry Springer show!! Barney is Homer's best friend and drinking partner. They meet at Moe's Tavern to drink Duff regularly. The Flanders family live next door to the Simpson, very religious family. Ned is known for his doodlydoo lines. The televison plays a big part in the Simpsons (Maggie once chose it over Bart and Lisa when asked who she loved more!). Shows include Itchy and Scratchy (the cat and mouse). These shows always involve Itchy beating up Scratch!! Krusty the Clown has a big part too with his helper Sideshow Bob (don't you see sooooo many people out with this haircut!). Occasionally you have guest starts as well, Smashing Pumpkins were in one episode where Homer took part in their show by getting shot in his big belly with a cannon ball. Tom Jones, Aerosmith and James Brown have also had bit parts but my favourite (as a trekker) has to be Leonard Nimoy, with his pointy ears, who remembers the monorail episode!??? Those are the main characters, you also will have the bit characters who appear occasionally, "hi, I'm Troy McClure, you may remember me in.....etc etc", the laughing doctor and who could forget bleeding gums Murphy (RIP). This program has been that sucessful that Bart Simpson has two number ones!!! How sad is that???
A cartoon character reaching number one!!! He's probably better than half the stuff in the charts now though (I must be getting old!!). Who can forget The Bartman and Deep Deep Trouble. There is an album out too!! Many people don't know that each actor takes on a number of characters voices. Apart from Homer, Dan Castellaneta also provides voices for Krusty, Barney, Grampa and Itchy the mouse!! Julie Kavner provides voices for Marge, Patty and Selma. Nancy Cartwright (yes, a woman!) does Bart and Nelson. Everyone knows a family like the Simpsons, I know quite a few!! Everyone can relate to the program and that's why it's funny!! If you mention an episode usually everyone will know exactly which one you are on about...or is that just us???? We probably watch far too much tele!
