For those of you who have yet to experience the delights of Americas most dysfunctional family (which planet are you from?) here is a brief rundown of why the series is so good.

The show works on two levels, kids will find the programme amusing because of the visual jokes and adults will find some of the one liners Homer comes out with funny.

Homer is the rather dim father of the family, Marge his wife plays a kind of straight man role, she keeps the family in line. Bart is their unruly 10 year old son who enjoys getting into as much trouble as possible while Lisa his sister is a child prodigy. Maggie is the baby of the family who doesn't do much - at least not usually.

The family lives in Springfield, and interact with the local population as you would expect from a typical smalltown USA family. The characterisation is excellent, it's hard to believe this is just a cartoon with animated characters and not real actors, apart from the fact they all have yellow skin!

The storylines are excellent and varied, you wont get bored with them, at least IO haven't over the last ten years or so.

If you are one of those aliens who has yet to watch this then give it a try, you wont regret it!
