Advantages: A desert island choice - you could watch this a million times and not be bored

Disadvantages: Eventually, you run out of episodes, and may need counselling to get over the loss.

The premise: following the lives, loves and dramas of a family undertaking business, and those of the customers they work with. Sounds really unappealing, doesn't it! That's certainly what i thought. I didn't fancy the premise at all, and initially found the first couple of episodes slightly hard going. I have my partner to thank, and i mean REALLY thank, for persuading me to give this series a proper go, and i'm hoping i can return the favour to anyone who reads this.

If you're looking for the most absorbing, thought provoking, sophisticated, well written and altogether wonderful TV drama in a generation, you just found it. Six Feet Under is a unique gem - truly original and you'll feel that your life has changed after watching the first season.

The characters are all brilliantly written, complex, and plausible. The acting is first class. The storylines cover all the great questions - love, sexuality, friendship, integrity, the meaning of life, and the meaning of death. When I finally worked my way through to the last episode of the last season, it was like saying goodbye to a real family, and a huge hole was left in my week. Oh i should probably mention - in general, i hate TV. I think time spent in front of "the box" is just wasting my life, and will only do it when i'm too physically knackered to do anything else. Six Feet Under is one of very few exceptions - it feels like a brain workout, a course in philosophy.

If you appreciate character-led, subtle and thoughtful drama, get yourself this box set and a long weekend free, without hesitation!

Summary: Intelligent, beautiful, thoughtful, and all round amazing.

This feels like a review of the series rather than the season 1 boxset. I shall ask dooyoo to move it for you.
