Advantages: good looking cast
Disadvantages: drugs
I felt I had to review this as the new series has got underway and has already drawn me in.
What is it about:
The programme is a drama, with elements of comedy which follows a group of A Level students as they party, take drugs, get into relationships with each other and generally cause a riot.
Good points:
* Nick Hoult is very good, having grafted in 'About A Boy' his eyes will grab you and his swagger. He is the central character in the first series.
* Cassie is a kooky teen with her head in the clouds, a great creation, allowing for some good comic moments.
* Mike Bailey plays Sid, who is one of the funniest characters. He is often getting into impossible situations and has a run of bad luck
* Underused in series one was Maxxie. He came into his own in series two and Mitch Hewer soon became a UK pin up thanks to the exposure
* The ongoing romance between Joe Dempsie's character and the school teacher is superb, allowing from some comedy and also touching and agonising moments
Bad points:
* A lot of focus on drug taking, is that all students do really?
* Tends to go too far into the farcial
* Not enough episodes! It was over before it began
Verdict: If you like 'Shameless' then this could work for you, though it lacks the grittyness of 'Shameless' the cast are easy on the eye and it is a well written show.
Check it out if you're aged 15-30 ish
Summary: fun!

- 08/02/09 I don't care how unrealistic it is - love it! ^_^ (and if you think the first two series are unrealistic, you should watch the 3rd which is on TV the now) I didn't like it when I first saw it though but I revisited the first series a year later and persisted with it and really enjoyed it. |
