Well he hasn't exactly got many qualifications in astronomy to show for what he's done for the world of astronomy. Patrick Moore concentrated upon studying the Moon. He was involved in the mapping of the Moon for the Apollo missions. You've all seen his books i'm sure, well he's writted plenty! The Sky at Night..... it's one of those programmes that has been around for ages. Infact it began in April 1957, it's still going strong 4.5 decades later, and lets face it, that's no easy task! Not only has it been around for 4.5 decades, it's presenter, Sir Patrick Moore, has been hosting the show ever since it started.... again, no easy task! I believe that makes this programme the longest running programme to have the same presenter in the world. (Although don't quote me on that!) So what makes The Sky at Night so darned good? On Friday the 26th April 1957 the BBC launched a programme that was destined to run until the present day and for the foreseeable future making it the longest running TV programme in the world hosted by the same presenter. The Sky at Night is a factual and interesting programme. The problem for many viewers may be that the presentation is straightforward without many of the special effects and high cost extras that many of the more popular documentary type programmes provide. To the uninitiated this may make the programme plain and boring, but if the viewer watches and listens the emphasis is on accurate, informative facts, presented in a way that a layperson can understand without feeling that the presenter is being condescending.
