Advantages: An enjoyable and entertaining outlook on the early years of the legend

Disadvantages: Some occasional dips in quality

The early years of Clark Kent are presented in an entertaining manner in this show. Tom Welling portrays a young Clark in his pre-flights/tights days, fitting into the role perfectly. Supported by a cast that experiences slight changes throughout the seasons but keeps hold of a few key players; Kristen Kreuk as Clark's high school sweetheart Lana Lang, his best friend and confidante Chloe Sullivan (Allison Mack, who portrays the only character in the cast not to originate from the Superman mythology), legendary love-to-be Lois Lane (Erica Durance) and classic nemesis Lex Luthor (Michael Rosenbaum). Other characters from the comics to make an appearance in the later seasons are Kara aka Supergirl (Laura Vandervoort) and almighty enemies Brainiac (James Marsters) and Doomsday.

The show is regularly brilliant but has the occasional episode of poor quality, It makes regular effort to stay true to the original idea of Superman's life but with a new twist, despite bringing some characters and enemies into Clark's life prematurely in comparison to when they appeared in the comic version.

I recommend it to everyone, especially those who are fans of Superman, just don't take everything too seriously. The show is thoroughly enjoyable, especially the most recent and possibly final eighth season.

Summary: Can be super!
