Advantages: Good message for natural beauty, but other than that the show is rubbish
Disadvantages: Jenny Frost's lack of presenting skills, cheap rubbish show
I was flicking through the channels quite late into the night last week and stumbled across the show on BBC Three. Ex Atomic Kitten member Jenny Frost is the presenter for the make over show with a difference. It's not actually a makeOVER show, but a makeUNDER, ridding people of all their make up and fake tan etc.
I'm a big fan of natural beauty, as I don't really wear much make up myself, so thought it might have been a good show, giving people a make under rather than a make over. The people who needed the make unders were covered in fake tan, absolutely bucket loads of make up, fake hair, fake nails and even faker attitudes. Thinking they looked fabulous, the aim of the show was to get rid of all the slap and all the fake tan etc and show them what they look like as natural beauties.
- The Show -
The idea of the show is really good and has a positive message, that natural beauty is far more attractive than a face full of slap. Unfortunately it doesn't come across that much as the show is put down by the poor presenting skills of Jenny Frost who looks like she could do with a make under herself half the time, or at least a brush through her hair.
The people who are in need of the make unders are often girls with fake tan, hair, nails etc. They're brought into "The Pod" where they receive a virtual telling off by a computer called 'Pod'. People on the streets are shown a picture of the dolled up bimbo and asked whether they would 'Snog, Marry, or avoid? Them'. 90% of the time the majority of people want to avoid them for looking to scary/bimbo-fied/too much make up/fake tan etc. Then Pod, the virtual make under specialist talks through what kind of style would suit them, and let them know that all the slap they're wearing isn't good and natural beauty is the best thing.
The most embarrassing bit for the contestants is when Pod asks them to take off all the slap they're wearing, stripping back the fakeness and revealing their natural looks. 99% of the time in the show, the people look so much better without all their make up. The job for Pod is then to style their hair, give them a total new look that shows off their natural beauty. Once this is complete a new survey is taken out on the public on whether they would 'Snog, Marry or Avoid?' after the make over. 99% of the time, the answer is either snog or marry, very few say avoid after all the slap is off.
Then its time for Jenny Frost to meet up with the make-under contestants a few weeks later to see if they've kept with their natural look or gone back to their old ways of fake tan and fake everything else. I've only seen a few of the people stay with the natural look, alot of them go back to all the make up etc.
- Conclusion -
As I said before the show has a good message about natural beauty but its just a shame that the show itself is pretty awful, get rid of the Pod, it looks cheap and stupid, get some real stylists in, and get rid of Jenny Frost..and the show would be good. In my opinion anyway.
I'd recommend this show only to people who like the whole natural beauty thing, and want to giggle at the fake people who pride themselves on looking like a tangerine barbie doll. Other than that, it's absolute crap!
It's not very often I write a bad review, but here's one of them! Thanks for reading! :)
Summary: Absolute rubbish :(
