Advantages: Can be entertaining
Disadvantages: Tacky and cheap TV
Snog, Marry Or Avoid is a show that is aired on BBC Three. The idea of the show is to not do the normal thing and do makeovers but rather do makeunders for people who have took their look a bit too far.
The show is presented by Jenny Frost who is an ex member of Atomic Kitten. There is also a character called Pod, which is a computer system that makes under the people. Each episode normally shows about three lots of people. Normally these are on their own but sometimes a couple will go on together. We see a video of these people and what they do to make their selves up. The people then have to go and face pod. Pod asks a number of people in the public what they think of the person. This is normally the question the show is name by would you 'snog, marry or avoid' this person. This usually results in a high percentage of people saying they would ignore them. They then have to do a deep cleanse and remove all the make-up and piercing's etc that they have. They have to then choose a new look based on a number of choices presented to them. They then get transformed by pod and get to see their new 'natural' look. Normally after this they get to see their friends or family so they can see how they have changed.
There are also another couple of small parts to the shows format. One of these is when they show clips of various girls outside clubs with their 'beauty tips'. These usually involve fake tan and false eyelashes. Jenny also tries out a tip herself such as putting cucumber on your eyes to see if it really works.
The kind of people that go on to this show are incredibly fake, hence why they need a makeunder. They usually have fake hair, fake nails, fake tan, lashings of make-up, very small clothing and sometimes even fake boobs! They also have a different variety of people who have loads of piercings and tattoos. I find it quite entertaining watching these people, especially when they think they look really amazing. It does make you realise that a natural look is much better. In their videos you can see what they have to do to make their selves look the way you do and you realise that they are wasting their time just a bit. Sometimes these people seem to see the error of their ways after their make under but for a lot of them they just go to the way they were. The sad thing is you can see that for a lot of them they are really just hiding an insecure person underneath. It is a shame they feel they have to look that way to feel good.
Occasionally people come on the show that Pod decides are fine the way they are. This normally happens about once every show. I think this is used to show that not all fakeness is that bad as long as you are yourself.
There has been the odd celebrity on the show such as Jodie Marsh and Aisleyne from Big Brother. This is quite entertaining as well to see the celebrities get a dressing down from Pod.
Jenny as a host is OK at the job. It is quite a cheap, tacky show so she doesn't really have much that she can do with the role. She tends to talk to the people before and after they get seen by Pod. She is always fairly nice to them, unlike pod but she does sometimes tell them off when they go back to how they were. Only in a little jokey way. She is quite upbeat and the show does suit her. I do think it is a bid odd when she 'magics' the person to see Pod.
Pod is a bit of an odd character, mainly because she is apparently a computer. She absolutely hates 'fakery' as she calls it and is on a mission to make all girls show off their natural beauty. She is quite harsh to the people who come on and often gives them a bit of a telling off. She is on the other hand very nice to them when they have been made under. All you see of pod is her lense and it moves when she talks, a bit weird to be honest. Her character is though probably one of the better parts of the show. Seeing her call these people what they really are can be quite amusing.
Overall it is a bit of a guilty pleasure watching this show. It is by no means brilliant but can be quite entertaining. I often watch it on the I-player if I am a bit bored. It is not a show that I go out of my way to watch. If you fancy a bit of trashy TV and the chance to laugh at some clueless people, it is worth watching.
Summary: A trashy TV show, that can be fun to watch
