Advantages: Easy watching, no energy required to watch.
Disadvantages: Boring after watching a few in short succession.
Snog, Marry, Avoid is a show which is hosted by Jenny Frost and shown on BBC Three at seemingly completely random times.
The format of the show sees men & women who wear too much make-up, look plastic, have trashy nail & hair extensions etc and normally wear too much fake tan. A short video or a photograph of the contestant are shown to members of the public and they are asked the question snog, marry or avoid? and then the contestant gets shown these reactions. After this part of the show the contestant will be spoken to by the POD (Personal Overhaul Device) which is a computer that comes with some witty & very cutting comments on how the contestant currently looks. Some of these comments are extremely harsh but then nothing hurts more than the truth sometimes does it?!
The contestant will then receive a 'make under' in which they will have their slap, fake hair, fake nails etc removed (any combination of the awful things they wear/use could be removed) and then they will receive new make-up & hair treatment which usually makes them look so much more improved. They also receive nice clothes such as ball gowns and just stylish suits or dresses that stop them looking like plastic cheap tarts!
The show is trash TV at it's best as there really are some truly awful looking people taking part. There have been a few 'celebrity' people take part, one of these being Jodie Marsh. After the contestant has received their 'make under' another video or photograph of them is shown to members of the public who will again answer the question snog, marry or avoid? and contestants will see the new reactions. I don't think I've ever seen anyone who doesn't look at least a little improved.
I wouldn't really recommend this as much see TV but if you are sitting around at home, bored, and want something that's fairly simple to watch and won't waste much precious brain energy then tune in to this as it's relatively inoffensive television (unless you see the episode with Jodie Marsh, gosh, she's annoying!).
This show is going to receive an average 3/5 from me as I don't mind watching it now and again, although, it's not something that I'd want to watch regularly as the concept would no doubt becoming more boring and make me more inclined to switch off the TV rather than watching this.
Summary: An easy going show with an average concept and some real plastic non-fantastic people.
