Advantages: Great characters and good acting

Disadvantages: Channel 4's scheduling

The Sopranos is one of the most entertaining and well written drama series on TV at the moment. The series tells the story of Tony Soprano and how he balances his life with his family and his 'other family', the members of the New Jersey mafia. Tony is in the middle of a mid-life crisis and one of the major parts of the series is Tony's relationship with his psychiatrist, Dr Melfi. Although the series contains a fair bit of violence (well it would be difficult to have a programme about gangsters without it) but the main focus is on the characters including Tony's wife Carmela, children Meadow and Anthony Jnr, Uncle Junior and the son of Carmelas cousin, Chris. There have been episodes concentrating on the various characters and maybe what makes The Sopranos so good is the excellant characters and the superb acting.

The second series starts shortly on Channel 4 (at the end of the current re-run of series 1) and it is good to see Channel 4 are advertising it heavily which should increase the exposure of this gem.

Excellent review. More of Dr. Melfi is what I say. Stunningly good TV.
