Space

Description: BBC 1 series hosted by Sam Neill exploring the mysteries of the universe.

Newest Review: ... programmes about space are simply narrated. However, not only is "Space" presented, it also makes use of top technology, including excellent computer aided graphics, along with real life images from Hubble and such like. As i've only seen the one episode as yet (i'll come back and update this opinion when i've seen more!) I'm not sure about just how detailed the ... more

Finally, this new series started on Saturday night at 8:30pm on BBC1. I had been eagerly awaiting the series for weeks, ever since I first saw the advert for it one night after Neighbours! I have always been fascinated with space. From the age of around 7 i've had all the traditional "are we alone?" "how did we get here?" "what's the Big Bang all about then?" type questions whizzing around my head. Slowly over the years i've found the answers out for myself (mainly from reading countless books on the subject). Now, at the age of 17, i've come to realise i'd quite like to study this topic for a degree! So who ...  Read the complete review

Having watched very little of the recent ambitious documentaries by the BBC I made a concerted effort with Space. The problem faced by makers of scientific documentaries is addressing complex issues while making the subject appealing to all. Too often they either overdo the scientific babble and make it incomprehensible for general viewing, or they compromise the depth of the show to make the programme universally appealing. Thankfully, the BBC has got it absolutely right. As a scientific person myself, I found much of narrative a little puerile for me, but also found much to enjoy and learn, which means it is probably pitched absolutely right to the ...  Read the complete review

Did you ever wonder where the universe came from? Where WE came from? Watch ‘Space’ at 8:30 on BBC 1 on Saturdays to find out! I just watched it and felt it was so good I had to review it. Practically ALL the questions you could ever think of about space are answered! It is cleverly presented, with Sam Neill explaining the universe through amazing special effects encased in his CGI set of laser projector thingies. It may sound like a science-fiction show but it is NOT! It’s an absolutely amazing documentary that answers all the questions a curious person may have. He also visits various places to help you understand what he’s trying to ...  Read the complete review

I had high hopes for this documentary and if this first episode is to set the pace then I’m afraid Sunday evenings will have me glued to the TV for the next few weeks. Even though it only runs for half an hour, it’s packed with science for all the family. That said, I will chart this series episode by episode and give you my perspective on the show. Episode one – “Star Stuff” (22/07) The series is vying to succeed in that all the big guns have been brought out to front this new documentary. Of course there is Sam Neil presenting this. This is his first time in that seat and I think he pulls it off well. His voice is ...  Read the complete review
