Advantages: Appeals to my sense of humour

Disadvantages: Not enough series :(

Spaced is a massively under rated late 90's Channel 4 programme series which came out on VHS and DVD so now you can own this fantastic series forever!!

Me and my mates used to do impressions and sketches from the show and fall about laughing cos no one knew what we were on about, it's the funniest thing ever to ever come out of Channel 4.

Not many people have heard of Spaced but it is blimmin geniusss!!

Spaced is written by and also starring Simon Pegg and Jessica Stevenson, and directed by Edgar Wright. It is famous for its rapid-fire editing, pop culture in jokes reference, crazy music, and some really mad displays of surrealism. Two series of seven episodes each were broadcast in 1999 and 2001 on Channel 4 and then again in October 2009 on Dave which may have won new fans??

This is the overview=

Tim Bisley, the character played by Simon Pegg, and Daisy Steiner played by Jessica Stevenson are two young Londoners who meet by chance in a cafe while both are flat-hunting. Despite barely knowing each other, they decide that they will then pose as a couple in order to apply for a cheap flat at Tufnell Park, which is owned by and also houses the landlady, Marsha Klein played by Julia Deakin who is hilarious. Also in the building is Brian Topp played by Mark Heap, a 'conceptual' artist who lives and works on his various pieces in the ground floor flat. Think painting naked, sticking to the walls, and borrowing tea bags. Frequent visitors are Tim's best friend, Mike Watt played by Nick Frost, who ends up becoming a lodger after Marsha's daughter Amber leaves in a huge argument and huff with Marsha, and Daisy's best friend, Twist Morgan, played Katy Carmichael.

Tim=late 20 something comic book artist and skateboarder, sometimes blinded by Daisy's craziness.

Daisy=freelance 'author', when she can be bothered, mad character likes to make disco lights from bacofoil....

Marsha=her voice is hilarious! Chain smoking landlady living with her daughter Amber who is apparently a storm in an A cup.

Brian=bizarre conceptual artist, who lives in the dark and dank bottom floor of the building.

Vulva=another 'conceptual' artist, Brian loves to wax lyrical about, but Vulva thinks he is a 'big massive loser', coming to blows part way through the series.

Mike=ex military man, hilarious again, provides security for parties etc.

Twist=Daisys best friend, fashionista, has a thing for Brian perhaps?

The series is majorly surreal adventures, Tim and Daisy are follwed as they navigate through life, decide on what they want to do with their lives, come to terms with affairs of the heart, and try to figure out new and largely unproductive ways of killing time such as house parties, job interviews and crazy art shows. Tim and Daisy always say that they aren't a couple to everyone but Marsha, who becomes very suspicious when their stories start not adding up, but despite this, romantic tension develops between them, particularly during the second series in a funny kind of way and they never get found out by Marsha due to making fake making love noises by jumping up and down on the bed whilst playing computer games.

I quite often could sit all day and watch the whole 2 series back to back and crease with laughter. Very ahead of its time sitcom which is massively underrated which is part of it's appeal. It's mad as a box of frogs it really is. It appeals.

Not so much 'under rated' as 'not that well known' (everyone who's seen it loves it, by and large). A note to Simon Pegg: some of your recent stuff leaves you open to a scenario where folk start describing Spaced as coming 'from the time when he was funny'...start being a bit more selective.
